LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The LAFD is looking at different programs that will get first responders moving even before the precise location and nature of the emergency is understood.

Nearly a minute of response time is spent up front with the gathering of equipment and getting into emergency vehicles.

Programs that are being tested now involve altering the LAFD as soon as a call is placed and setting firefighters in motion before they know where they need to go.

The programs aim to reduce by at least a minute the response time for the LAFD.

First responders would then be routed as they rolled out of their stations and onto the street.

In an unusual twist, made so because of the exclusive nature of some neighborhoods, the poor, densely populated areas of town can get first responders on scene in half the time as some of the closed, restricted upscale communities in the area.
