LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - The holy city of Najaf in Iraq is home to the world's largest cemetery. Called Wadi Al-Salaam, the cemetery is 1,400 years old and dates back to the early days of Islam.
It covers more than two square miles of land, and contains over 5 million bodies. If you stand at the center of the cemetery, it appears to stretch as far as your eye can see.
A drone has now filmed the cemetery from the air and the site is awe-inspiring. The cemetery is also on the list to become a World Heritage site because of the many historical figures buried there and its size. The cemetery has been in use since before the Middle Ages.
The cemetery is divided into blocks with streets running though it. The streets allow traffic to flow through the city of Najaf. It may take a vehicle several minutes to cross the entire cemetery.
