LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Christians in India have faced an increase of persecutions at the hands of extreme Hindus.

According to Morning Star News, On June 14, in Hunter village, Palamu District, Gunni Bhuiya was stopped by Hindu extremists as he walked down the road.

They began to question him and Bhuiya admitted he was a Christian who believes and worships Jesus.

The extremists became enraged and, with a mob mentality, attacked him then threatened to kill him.

"They told Bhuiya that as the Christians are still worshipping [sic] Christ even after they had received severe beatings, they were now going to kill them," pastor Sanjay Kumar Ravi described.

Whether Bhuiya still lives is uncertain.

Christians have been forbidden to worship, convert people and even purchase goods from Hindu stores.

The Indian government has been working to stop the religious discrimination but the hard-to-access villages tend to be self-run and rarely adhere to outside authority.

Meanwhile, Christians have been physically assaulted, their homes were burned to the ground, many have been run out of villages they have lived in for generations and others were killed for their faith.

Hindu authorities have also implemented a fine should any Christian be found worshiping God.

The Lord warned in the Bible that unbelievers would hate those who choose to follow Him and even told believers to keep an eye out for the dangers lurking "like a roaring lion for someone to devour."

Fortunately, our Heavenly Father also tells us in Deuteronomy 31:6, "Be strong, stand firm, have no fear, do not be afraid of them, for the Lord your God is going with you; he will not fail you or desert you."

Please pray for peace in India. Pray that the Lord touch the extremists with His love, mercy and grace.

Ask that the Lord change the hearts of hateful men and strengthen His followers against the devil's lies and attacks - but most of all, pray for God's glory to rain down in India and to lead the lost to the One True God.
