LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - According to CNN, the death toll has reached 28 and sixty people are injured.

Turkey's Justice Minister explained the explosions were caused by two suicide bombers, the first of whom "first opened fire with a Kalashnikov then detonated himself."

There were a total of three bombs that went off, though none was detonated within the airport or any of its buildings.

According to Jewish Press, several people have been wounded or worse at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport in Turkey.

The attack erupted shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday night.

One government official told reporters there were two explosions followed by gunfire outside the terminal nearest a parking lot.

The explosions may or may not have been the result of bombs as gunfire or suicide bombings may be the responsible culprits.

Several injuries have been reported and available taxis have been transporting the injured to hospitals around the city.

A local source claimed one of the two explosions occurred in the VIP section of the airport but no news has been released about the second.

Some who were caught inside the terminal began to post images to Twitter and Oguzcan Aksoy posted a brief video of frightened people huddling in an otherwise empty airport.

CNN reported at least ten people died during the explosions, according to Turkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag.

Bozdag reported police did fire shots at suspects in the terminal but did not explain further.

One person claimed the blasts were the result of suicide bombers but nothing has been substantiated at this time.

Please pray for safety, healing and peace of mind for those afflicted with fear and pain in Istanbul.
