'Surrender by the West to the axis of evil': Israel rejects Iran and U.S. nuclear deal

The Iran Nuclear deal is controversial.

Israel has released a blazing bout on Western authorities for approving the controversial atomic pact with Iran. Israel warned that the agreement paved a "sure path to nuclear weapons" for Tehran.

Highlights

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - Under the deal, sanctions executed by the United States, European Union and United Nations will be lifted in exchange for Iran agreeing to long-term curbs on a nuclear operation suspected to be aimed toward building an atomic bomb.

As the The European Union sees it, the agreement serves as a "sign of hope for the entire world." President Barack Obama believes the compact means that "every pathway to a nuclear weapon is cut off."

Not everybody echoed the optimistic opinions on the matter. Israel was particularly infuriated and rejected the deal, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu branding the deal as "a bad mistake of historic proportions." He explained, "One cannot prevent an agreement when the negotiators are willing to make more and more concessions to those who, even during the talks, keep chanting: 'Death to America.'"

Miri Regev, a former military spokeswoman who serves as Israel's culture and sports minister, said it gave Iran a "license to kill." Republican U.S. presidential candidate Lindsey Graham stated this could be "a possible death sentence for Israel."

The main transactions were between the U.S. and Iran, but four other U.N. Security Council permanent members, Britain, China, France and Russia, are also parties in the deal, as well as Germany.

Prime Minister David Cameron thinks the deal will "keep Iran from developing a nuclear weapon and help to make our world a safer place."

Alireza Zakan, an Iranian conservative lawmaker said that Iran's National Security Council would also assess the deal "and if they think it is against our [Iran's] national interests, we will not have a deal," according to him. He stated, "The Islamic Republic will not sign a bad deal."

This agreement is a major political victory for both President Obama and President Rouhani.

Nonetheless, Israel is adamant and will strongly oppose the outcome. Israel perceives the acceptance of Iranian nuclear infrastructure and continued nuclear activity a mortal threat.
