LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Israel never formally announced their nuclear program in an effort to avoid an inevitable regional nuclear arms race. Up until now, the U.S. has respected their wishes to remain silent.
The mentioned document provides in depth detail into Israel's nuclear powers. Although the 386-page report is titled, "Critical Technological Assessment in Israel and NATO Nations," it only goes into Israel's program and blocks out details on Italy, France, West Germany and other NATO countries.

The timing of the secret release is "highly suspect, given that it came as tensions spiraled out of control between Prime Minister Netanyahu and U.S. President Barack Obama" just as Netanyahu was warning against the U.S. investing in Iran's nuclear program, according to Israel National News.
Israel is "developing the kind of codes which will enable them to make hydrogen bombs. That is, codes which detail fission and fusion processes on a microscopic and macroscopic level," reveals the report. Israel has research laboratories that "are equivalent to our Los Alamos, Lawrence Livermore and Oak Ridge National Laboratories," the key testing labs in America.
Israel's nuclear program is described as "an almost exact parallel of the capability currently existing at our National Laboratories."
In the report, it is noted that Israel military technology "is more advanced than in the U.S" in some aspects.
According to Israel National News, the process to release this previously classified document began about three years ago when U.S. journalist Grant Smith petitioned to gain access to the document under the Freedom of Information Act. Therefore, the current publishing timeline appears to be a choice made by the American government.
