LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - A piece of aluminum discovered in Romania has UFO enthusiasts claiming it as evidence that aliens visited Earth a very long time ago.

The chunk of aluminum was found by builders working along the Mures River in Romania in 1973. Digging 33 feet under the ground they found the metal piece alongside two fossils. Two separate assessments suggests the metal fragment could be a stunning 250,000 years old.

The fragment only recently came to public light.

The metal is clearly manufactured, and is not some accident of nature. It has tabs and concave holes which suggest it came from another, larger object. Aluminum does occur naturally, but in small amounts. This chunk is about the size of an axe-head, which is evidence enough that it is manufactured.

Other tests suggested the metal is much newer, between 80,000 and 400 years old. Even at 400 years old it is a mystery, humans have only manufactured things out of aluminum for 200 years.

Either something is very wrong with the dating methods, or something is wrong with our history.

At least one local historian says the object has a more mundane explanation. It is a part from a WWII German fighter plane.

The object has been put on display at the museum of Cluj-Napoca. The museum lists the object as "origin unknown."

Is this a part from an ancient UFO? Perhaps it is an elaborate hoax from decades ago? Maybe it is a part from a German plane? For now, nobody is quite sure, but there's reasons to believe each case. Until someone comes forward with an explanation, it's up to us to decide for ourselves.
