LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - According to CBS Boston, David lives in a Charles River Center-supported home in Needham, which is a nonprofit organization that helps developmentally disabled people find housing, get job training and find employment.
One of the center's first local business partners was McDonald's, which hired David in 1984.
Her party was complete with a cake thanking David for all the years she gave to the company and several employees had wonderful things to say about her.
Several of the party-goers told WBZ-TV David was a wonderful person, with Anne-Marie Bajwa, the center's chief operating officer, adding: "People with disabilities can be integrated in the community and learn new skills and learn new interests so that they can give back to the community and contribute."
"It was nice," David said of the party. "I'm really happy. I like all my friends here."
Rony Sandoval, the restaurant's manager, explained: "When she sees any kids in the lobby, she started making fries and comes out and says, 'Hi sweetie.' She's a lovely, lovely girl."
Coworkers admitted David greeted them with a hug when she came in for her shift and one McDonald's representative stated: "Freia is a terrific employee. We learned a lot more from her than she could ever learn from us."
David said she would miss her job but now that she has retired she can work at the center, where she hopes to maintain the skills McDonald's taught her.
"I get to relax and take care of myself," she stated.
WFXT reported David will receive free meals as a patron at the McDonald's she worked at and Bob Broughton, McDonalds' director of operations, added: "Her smiles, her enthusiasm and her daily hugs made our restaurant more than just a restaurant. It made us part of Freia's family.
"We love you, we appreciate you, we respect you and we're all better people for having you in our lives. Thank you Freia."
