Can YOU pass the bogus test?

The United Kingdom has agreed to grant asylum to refugees fleeing religious persecution but ran into one little problem: How can they tell who is genuinely religious from those pretending to be?

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Unfortunately, the UK decided the best method of sorting true Christians from the "fakes" is a controversial, inaccurate and downright offensive Christianity quiz.

A report released by the UK's All Party Parliamentary Group titled, "Asylum Report: Inadequate assessment of religion-based claims," revealed the 19 questions Christians need to know.

There are several problems with the quiz, which you can take at the bottom of the page, particularly since knowledge is most decidedly not an accurate measuring tool for how religious someone is.

The real problem with the quiz, which asks questions such as "How many books are in the Bible?" lies in its dependency on Biblical knowledge.

Psychologists Benjamin Bei-Hallahmi and Michael Argyle wrote: "Religious knowledge, that is, the knowledge of a religion's scripture and tradition, is not considered a good measure of religiosity, simply because the majority of believers surveyed, in Western countries at least, seem to be quite ignorant of what are considered basic elements of religious tradition."

The study conducted by the psychologists was conducted over 60-years-ago and has been proven to be true again and again since then.

In a 2010 Pew Survey, atheists and agnostics scored the highest on religious knowledge surveys, followed by Jews and Mormons. White evangelical Protestants, white Catholics and White mainline Protestants scored an average of 16.5 of 32 religious questions correctly, which corroborates with the 60-year-old findings of Bei-Hallahmi and Argyle.

Clearly, the test is biased toward the educated - which many refugees, and even Americans, have not received.

In countries like Syria and Iraq, where the largely Muslim population is known for persecuting Christians and destroying churches, it should come as no surprise that the refugees are unable to pass the UK's outlandish and outdated test.
