London's Muslim mayor to bad racy public adverts, but why? Public good or Islamic pressure?

Islam is spreading for a reason.

London's first Muslim mayor is cleaning up the city's advertisements, Muslim style, criticizing ads with sex appeal as "body shaming." Is this how the Islamic conquest of the west begins? Perhaps it is for the best, since we Christians cannot police morals for ourselves.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - First Muslim mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has banned all advertisements that show attractive women that he described as "unrealistic" from public transport. This means ads featuring attractive models will be banned on buses and in the city's subway system (Tube).

"As the father of two teenage girls, I am extremely concerned about this kind of advertising which can demean people, particularly women, and make them ashamed of their bodies. It is high time it came to an end," Khan explained. He added, "Nobody should feel pressurized, while they travel on the Tube or bus, into unrealistic expectations surrounding their bodies and I want to send a clear message to the advertising industry about this."

What is unclear is if Kahn is responding to public outcry over the unrealistic images of women that are a common sight in advertising, or his Muslim faith. Critics say these depictions, which are often heavily photoshopped, give young girls and women an unrealistic ideal which can prove dangerous. Low self esteem, eating disorders, and even acts of self harm can result from being bombarded with these images.

It's difficult to argue with this logic, and it's good to see him seek to clean up imagery that approximates smut on public display. Certainly, we Christians have not taken such measures to clean up the public space ourselves. But it's also worth wondering if Kahn's Muslim faith is at work.

The concern is that Islam takes root in small ways, first with popular laws. Later, the demands become more strict and over time, Islam comes to dominate. Once Islam is the predominant influence, sharia law cannot be far behind.

Islam would not be able to gain a  foothold in the west if Christianity had guarded morals for the people, but under Christian leadership, abortion has become legal, crime, war, and other vices common, and libertine behavior expected. If Islam provides a better path in life for people, can we blame the youth for choosing Islam over Christianity?

We need a return to public decency, but in the Christian west, it should be Christians pointing this direction for fellow Christians, not Muslims.
