A 22-year-old migrant center worker was brutally stabbed to death outside the housing for unaccompanied migrants in Molndal, Sweden. Sadly, her death is one of several migrant-related crimes throughout Europe.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Daily Mail reported Alexandra Mezher was stabbed in the back and thigh outside youth housing for unaccompanied migrants ages 14 through seventeen.

Alexandra's mother, Chimene Mezher, believes Sweden was "not safe." With migrant-related crimes increasing throughout Europe, Mezher may be right.

Alexandra's family fled Beirut over twenty-five years ago and the girl, who was described by her mother as an "angel," wanted to help the migrant children living in Molndal without parents.

She graduated with a degree in psychology and was dedicated to helping the children she believed were helpless. Unfortunately for Alexandra, the children who grew up around violence were anything but.

Though the migrant center rule was for staff to walk in pairs, Alexandra often walked alone at night and she was killed thirty minutes before the end of her shift.

A 15-year-old boy, described as Somalian, stabbed Alexandra, Monday morning at 8 a.m. He has since been captured by Swedish authorities and is currently being held as a suspect. The prosecutor, Linda Wiking, will announce the official arrest on Wednesday.

Chimene told Daily Mail: "We left Lebanon to escape the civil war, the violence and the danger. We came to Sweden where it was safe, to start our family. But it is not safe any more [sic]. And I just want to know why...why Alexandra? She wanted to help them, but they did this. I just want answers.

"She was not just my daughter, she was my angel. She was a just and fair human being. There were so many who loved her. She was my daughter, my friend."

Chimene blamed Swedish politicians for the rise in Molndal's immigrants, which added 8,000 people to the population of only 60,000. Half the number of migrants relocated to Molndal were unaccompanied children.

Migrant crime is so rampant in the country that drug deals and other such "lesser offenses" are overlooked as authorities have their hands full with gang fights, violent and sexual assaults.

A spokesman reported the teen would be tried as an adult. He specified, "We don't know anything about the boy's family. We have not even established his identity with a 100 per cent certainty yet."

Authorities reported the forensic investigation of the scene has yet to be completed and several questions remain. The seven witnesses, all youths living in the government housing buildings, have been relocated and interviewed by police.

Alexandra's family was deeply impacted by her death, with her best friend, Lejla Filipovic, explaining: "She gave a lot to others. She didn't expect anything back. Alexandra was the first person in her family to get a degree and her family were [sic] so happy and proud of her. Now they are torn to pieces."

Charbel Aoen, a relative of Alexandra's, described how her youngest brothers, 10-year-old Daniel and 17-year-old Elias, have hardly spoken "a single word" since her murder.

"Daniel is so silent it is scary," Aoen admitted. "He is sad and filled with anger. He can't understand why she was alone in that institution and what her last seconds were like."

Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven stated: "This is a tragedy. It is a terrible crime. I think that a lot of people in Sweden feel a great worry that there might be more similar cases after Sweden took in so many unaccompanied children and youths."

Last year Sweden, whose population was 9.8 million, accepted 160,000 migrants, 35,369 of whom are unaccompanied minors.

Alexandra's murder was a terrible tragedy, but the boy responsible does not represent all of the youths. Two residents of the housing for unaccompanied minors have been recognized by Swedish authorities for their bravery and acts of heroism when they overpowered Alexandra's attacker.

Peter Adlersson, a police spokesman, stated: "Two boys held him down. It is a very good intervention. Had he intended to hurt anyone else, then they have prevented that. It is easy to become injured yourself when intervening in this kind of situation. We are very grateful for these kinds of actions."
