LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - British archaeologists have dug into the remains of an archaeological site in Peterborough that dates back about 3,000 years. The site was uncovered in a farm quarry next to a small river.
The village was destroyed by a fire, then collapsed and sank into a marsh that dominated the area at the time. The ruins were preserved by the mud, only to be discovered a decade ago in an incredibly well-preserved state. It has taken a decade for archaeologists to secure the permission to perform a formal excavation. Their finds are astounding.
It is unknown why the site was destroyed by fire. Forensic analysis hopes to reveal if the fire was accidental or intentional, and if the village was attacked.
