The new 'Iron Curtain': Hungary plans massive border fence to keep migrants out

Border fence plan is being compared to Auschwitz.

Critics are not happy with the Hungarian government's plan to construct a 13-foot high border fence to narrow down the influx of illegal migrants coming to their country. The planned border is being compared to the historically terrifying Auschwitz and Iron Curtain during the World War II and the Cold War. However, Hungarian government officials defend the plan, calling it a necessary measure.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - The plan of 100-mile long border fence with Serbia was called by a human rights watch group as "an insult to history" and the "new Iron Curtain," according to The Blaze. Siberia's Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic expressed distaste in the plan after the Hungarian government announcement it last week.

"We don't want to live in an Auschwitz," said PM Vucic, in reference to the horrific Nazi concentration camp.

Hungary was quick to address the criticisms; Foreign Minister Szijjarto claimed that there were no other effective measures to hinder the continuous illegal immigration.

They said that the other ways they tried failed, so the construction of the border fence is now necessary. According to the Associated Szijjarto, just this year, about 61,000 immigrants entered Hungary, almost all coming from Serbia. Most of them are from Kosovo, then there were immigrants from Afghanistan and Syria.

"This is a necessary step. We have to stop the flood," government spokesperson Zoltan Kovacs told The Guardian.

Reports explained that the European Union has been pressuring Hungary to take back the illegal immigrants, who first registered in Hungary for refuge before moving into others, due to Europe's open borders. However, Hungary announced that they would not take back those who had already moved to a third European country after leaving Hungary.
