Scabies scare forces African migrants out of their makeshift camps in Paris
FREE Catholic Classes
With the recent migrant surge in Europe from nations like Sudan and Somalia, some still waiting on their chance to move into decent places in France, Britain and other countries had opted to live in makeshift camps. However, a camp under the subway bridge near the Gare du Nord station in Paris has been shut down, after a scabies breakout. Refugees displayed very little resistance, but people are expressing concerns over where they will be going after the makeshift camp closure.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - "There was very little resistance. These people have now been taken to proper sheltered accommodation outside of the city," said a police official from Paris, according to The Daily Mail.
Frightened that the scabies outbreak may become an epidemic, authorities decided to close down the camp with about 350 African migrants sheltered temporarily since their arrival in the city. Lacking proper hygiene and facilities, they are deemed a high risk for being infected and starting the epidemic.
"We don't want these people to have to live with these kinds of hygiene and health issues," said Dominique Versini, Deputy Mayor of Paris, in a statement with the Planet News online.
Migrants had been staying in this area since the summer of 2014, but their number doubled by April 2015, after successful crossings on the Mediterranean to Europe from North Africa. Over the weekend, authorities put up signs advising them to leave the camp within 24 hours.
However, there are no clear tracks as to where the migrants went, but some reports claim many went to Calais, which was also feared by some locals. The French port town is their hope to enter the United Kingdom, where they believe they have better chances on decent living.
About 140 refugees were reported evicted from the makeshift camps by the Calais police.
