LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Free public transportation was provided that day to allow the masses to join the march and mourn for those killed by terrorists.

French President Francois Hollande began the march by addressing the massive crowd, "Today, Paris is the capital of the world."

A wide variety of signs were held up to display pride and to take a stand against terrorists. The majority of signs stated, "Je suis Charlie" (I am Charlie) as both a stand for free speech and in memory of the magazines fallen cartoonists.

Take a stand for a cause that matters now!

Prior to the remarkable march, the interior ministers from most countries gathered for an international meeting regarding terrorism in Paris. U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder was present for the meeting, but left before the historic march, according to Daily Mail.

"By mid-morning, approximately 2,000 police officers and 1,400 soldiers were deployed across Paris in an atmosphere described by one officer on the scene as 'extremely tense,'" stated Daily Mail.

"We are here to support freedom. We cannot be beaten," exclaimed Isabelle Gabarre, a march participant, to Daily Mail. "It is an important word, not only here in France, but around the world."

There's no time like the present, stand up for your health today.

Cities around the world held their own solidarity marches to pay respect to Charlie Hebdo and stand up against terrorism. Berlin, Madrid, Jerusalem, Strasbourg, Ankara, Brussels, Glasgow, London and New York City were among those involved in the mass display of defiance.

"Those people who were responsible for the attack at Charlie Hebdo and in the kosher supermarket had one objective only," explained London mayor Boris Johnson at the London demonstration in Trafalgar Square. "That was to divide our societies and communities from one another, to foster mistrust and hatred and suspicion. The worst possible thing would be to allow them to succeed and that's why it's so important that so many voices from all communities and across all religions have all joined together to denounce what has happened in Paris."
