LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to sign legislation that will ban smoking in all public places in the Philippines. The ban includes e-cigs. Smokers will now have to smoke in designated places away from the public. The move is expected to make air a little more breathable for people across the country.

About a third of all adults in the country smoke, according to a report by the Southeast Asia Tobacco Control Alliance. Nearly half of all men smoke and about 9 million women. Smoking has hazardous health consequences and costs the national economy about $4 billion in healthcare and lost productivity every year.

According to government officials, the public smoking ban in Davao is popular among the public and businesses.

President Duterte has a reputation as a pro-public health leader. While mayor he banned late-night drinking and enforced a curfew for schoolchildren.

These new policies will help improve public health and quality of life in the Philippines. The people of the Philippines have suffered too long from foreign occupation, corruption, and being treated as a second-class nation. The people of the Philippines have always resisted and resented this disrespect. 25;;08 *1 9**;36)5(*

For the first time in modern history, the people of the Philippines have elected a populist, nationalist leader in President Duterte. His unapologetic nature has many world leaders unsure of how to react.

President Duterte is the people's choice of the Philippines. The people of that nation have the right to self-determination. They may elect whom they please and pass whatever laws they wish to live by. The world has no right to judge these people for how they choose to live. Their decision is between themselves and God alone.

If the people choose to outlaw smoking, or to fight a war against drugs, it is their choice. Our only job is to show support for the people and respect for their choices. Nothing else in the Philippines is our business.
