LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Christianity is spreading across China, leading the communist government to grow upset over the outrageous teachings of Jesus, who was a radical in his time and whose teaching encourage radical acts in China.

"Radical acts" include questioning the government and the difference between right and wrong - neither of which China finds desirable among its citizens.

Two years ago China started a war against Christianity. Suddenly citizens were being arrested for their attempts to stop the government's acts of Christian persecution, which included the destruction of churches and other "excessive religious sites."

Human rights lawyer Zhang Kai was detained for six months after starting a legal campaign to help churches challenge the removal of their crucifixes,

Prior to his release, he was "forced" to appear on the State channel to "confess" his crimes against the Chinese government.

The Chinese government also detained a group of Christians for suspected financial crimes last year after they wrote a public letter protesting the demolition of crosses.

One humanitarian group, China Aid has been reporting acts of Christian persecution in China since 2002, when five Chinese house church leaders were sentenced to death.

It reported since January this year, China has destroyed 49 churches and claimed each was destroyed due to various reasons such as failure to procure a proper building license, the structures somehow interfere with traffic safety or because the churches have been deemed "illegal structures."

The Chinese government is so extreme it its efforts to eraticate Christianity that it removed a cross from a Christian nursing home. One unnamed official admitted, "According to standards, this Christian nursing home is not a place for religious activities."

As the persecution continues, Paul Robinson, the Chief Executive of Christian persecution watchdog group Release International, reported growing concerns of a growing momentum of Christian persecution spreading across China.

Meanwhile, activists believe over 1,500 crosses have been demolished from churches, personal homes and nursing homes.
