Sandra Suh was deported from North Korea for 'anti-state conspiracy'

Accused of anti-Pyongyang plot-breeding, Sandra Suh was deported from North Korea and arrived in Beijing, China this week, according to the United States Embassy spokesman Nolan Barkhouse. The American aid worker had been frequenting North Korea "under the pretense of humanitarianism" for about 20 years, according to Pyongyang's official statement through the KCNA News Agency on Wednesday. They claimed that she was deported instead of detained due to her old age and apology.

It was said that her punishment was reconsidered due to her age and recognizing that she had "seriously insulted" the North Korean's trust in their leader Kim Jong Un through the apology. However, Suh has not made any statement regarding her deportation and charges since she arrived at Beijing's Capital International Airport, reported by the New York Daily News.

Suh is registered as the founder of Wheat Mission Ministries, a California-based Christian organization. In the report by the The Guardian, the organization's mission is to provide food and medical aids to North Koreans. However, Suh was not found on the list of the organizations' current staff available in their website and their office in Los Angeles has not answered any calls.

Unlike the previous deportations and detentions, there was no information regarding Suh and the charges against her until before the day of her flight to Beijing, said US Embassy official.

Analysts speculate that past detentions of foreign missionaries under the charges of spying in North Korea against the regime are to pull them out of the country. There is some evidence that likely shows North Koreans views foreign missionaries as agents to form unrest within the territory.
