LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Investigators are hoping that the cockpit voice recorder will be able to shed light on what happened to the airplane on December 28, which resulted in the deaths of 162 people.

A member of Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency announced that one of the plane's black boxes was found just hours after the flight data recorder was also found.
Search and rescue teams focused heavily on the site on Sunday, following reports from three Indonesian ships which claimed to detect pings in the area. Rough seas, murky water and powerful currents did hamper the search, but eventually divers were able to remove the objects from underneath heavier debris at a depth of about 100 feet.
These devices will be taken to and analyzed in Jakarta, the Indonesian capital. Results from the findings could be released in the late January or early February, said an investigator with Indonesia's National Committee for Safety Transportation, Nurcahyo Utomo.

Sunday also marked the removal of the tail section, the first major piece of wreckage that has been excavated from the crash site. Divers have also located a wing of the plane, and debris from an engine.
Indonesian officials were hopeful that the main cabin of Flight 8501 had been found, which they believe has the remains of the rest of the passengers and crew, but were mistaken. So far only 48 bodies have been recovered.
