Priests for Life to Co-sponsor Screening of Documentary on Sex-Selection Abortion

Sex-selection abortion is the ultimate act of discrimination against girls - a baby girl is identified in utero and her life ended simply because she is a baby girl. This violence based solely on the fact that she is a girl marks the beginning of gendercide or femicide. It is not surprising that the three most dangerous words in the world are 'It's a girl.' (Fr Frank Pavone)

P>NEW YORK, NY (Priests for Life) - As part of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), Priests for Life will co-sponsor a screening of "It's A Girl," a documentary that takes an unflinching look at gendercide and forced abortion in China and India. The screening will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, in the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center, 1 East 42nd St., Manhattan. The screening is open to the public.
The documentary focuses on 200 million "missing" women and girls who were killed in sex-selection abortions, or murdered or abandoned as newborns. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Andrew Brown, producer; Reggie Littlejohn of Women's Rights Without Frontiers, and Michael Platzer of the Academic Council on the United Nations System.
Priests for Life is a non-governmental organization in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council. In a statement submitted as part of CSW, Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, said "violence against women and girls must be eliminated and prevented throughout the life cycle.
"Elimination of violence against women and girls must begin where the violence begins-in the womb," Father Pavone said in the statement. "Sex-selection abortion is the ultimate act of discrimination against girls - a baby girl is identified in utero and her life ended simply because she is a baby girl. This violence based solely on the fact that she is a girl marks the beginning of gendercide or femicide. It is not surprising that the three most dangerous words in the world are 'It's a girl.'
"Violence against girls must not be allowed by anyone for any reason, including by the mother who wants to give birth to a son but is pregnant with a girl."
"It's a Girl" was an official selection in Amnesty International's 2012 REEL Awareness Film Festival and was shown at the European Parliament in Brussels and the British Parliament in London. For information about the film, go it ItsaGirlmovie.com
