Amazing time lapse video sees construction of 183,000-square-foot hotel in two weeks' time

An amazing time lapse video that shows a 30-story building being built in a scant 15 days has gone viral on the Internet. Gizmodo reader Xian Min Zhang created a time lapse video from his company's latest project: an 183,000-square-foot hotel built in just 360 hours. Many viewers report disbelief and astonishment.

All the materials were prefabricated and sections built to specification off-site, so there was very little wastage.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Built near the Dongting Lake, in the Hunan Province by the Broad Group, the Chinese construction company specializes in sustainable architecture. The skyscraper utilized prefabricated modules (with a 0.2mm precision in the fabrication process) mounted on a steel structure, with diagonal steel bracing.

All the materials were prefabricated and sections built to specification off-site, so there was very little wastage.

The builders took just 46 hours to finish the main structural components and another 90 hours to finish the building enclosure. All of the structure is soundproofed and thermal-insulated.

The hotel is reportedly so sturdy, it can resist a nine magnitude earthquake, as tested by the China Academy of Building Research. In the included video, there's a scene in which viewers can see the testing process, at 1:49. The company claims that the building is five times more earthquake-resistant than conventional buildings.

The company also says that it is five times more energy efficient, with 6-inch thick glass curtain wall insulation and four-paned windows with built-in shades. There is also a heat recovery system and three-stage filtration air conditioning process that purifies indoor air to be 20 times purer than the air outside.

The building even has air quality monitoring in every room which, given the pollution problem in China, seems to be an important selling point there.

Their previous record was a smaller 15-story building constructed in just six days, but this one is much more impressive.
