LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - "I've definitely got a man crush on him," CNN quoted reverend Benjamin Corey. He's not the only person. While Catholics overwhelmingly love and support Pope Francis, the diversity of support from the man is incredible.

Christians around the world continue to praise Pope Francis for his Christ-like ministry. His calls to serve the poor and to cast aside worldly wealth are very popular with many Christians. While Pope Francis is not the first Pope to be Christ-like in his ministry, modern media, social media and his public profile have built a following for Pope Francis.

It isn't just Christians. CNN cited Muslims and Hindus as acknowledging the work and popularity of Pope Francis. Muslims in particular are pleased with his welcoming, ecumenical attitude towards their brethren, some of who have been displaced by terrorists in the Middle East.

CNN quoted Padma Kuppa, a Hindu mother of two from Michigan who said he, "embodies that pursuit of dharma."

Even more astounding is the outpouring of support for the Pope from gays and atheists. Although Pope Francis remains steadfast in his defense of marriage and the family, he has made Catholic teaching plain on the subject. That teaching, is as it always has been, we must love the sinner, even if we hate the sin.

The mere act of highlighting this fundamental Christian teaching has made Pope Francis very popular. The same also goes for atheists. Atheists praise Pope Francis for living as closely as possible to the Christian ideal, and for his embrace of diversity and his sincere efforts to aid the poor.

Pope Francis may be one of the most successful, ecumenical popes in history. He has done more to energize and motivate the Church, and to attract good press from people and groups that have historically viewed the Church as an opponent rather than a friend.

Pope Francis is a pope we can be proud of an a man worthy of leadership. The whole world is richer thanks to his work.
