LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Located in Raso, Somalia, the strike hit the camp's graduation ceremony with both manned and unmanned aircraft, according to Fox News.

The attack is said to have occurred near the end of the training and was made in "self-defense," though officials did not reveal how the U.S. military made that decision.

According to Pentagon spokesman Captain Jeff Davis, the camp often held up to 200 fighters, and they were preparing a "large scale attack" on both Africa and the United States.

"We struck the camp and destroyed it," expressed Davis, who noted the camp was under close surveillance for two weeks, and there were no signs of civilian casualties from the strike.

The terrorist group, al-Shabaab, first became recognized in 2008. Since then, they have been named the masterminds behind many terrifying attacks, including the massacre at a Kenyan university in April 2015 where Christians were specifically targeted.

Two of the group's prominent leaders, Adan Garar and Ahmed Abdi Godane, were both previously killed by U.S. drone strikes. However, with the public training camps holding large graduation ceremonies, new, equally as dangerous leaders, are expected to be in the mix.
