ALGIERS, ALGERIA (Catholic Online) - This perspective was held since Tuesday in Algiers at an international conference on the fight against extremism and de-radicalization.
The magnitude taken, in recent years, by this phenomenon, mainly in the recruitment within the youth population through various social networks, sounded the alarms to a true reflection on ways to counteract the situation.
The need to share contact information through a comprehensive approach became a necessity. Initiated by Algeria and supported by the UN, the meeting was an opportunity for representatives, from more than fifty countries, and specialized international organizations to assess the main actions carried out by Algeria in its fight against terrorism and extremism.
"The holding of this conference in Algeria, comes in response to international interest in its experience of de-radicalization and numerous requests that were addressed to it to share this experience" stated Abdelkader Messahel, minister for Maghreb Affairs, African Union and League of Arab States, in his opening address.
The de-radicalization and efforts against violent extremism through education, including the effective promotion of teaching methods, vocational training and employment are among key solutions, as well as the role of media, including TV satellite and religious programs in the de-radicalization.
