ALGIERS, ALGERIA (Catholic Online) - Egypt has declared that Hamas, the military wing of the Palestinian movement, is a terrorist group.

The renouncement was made on January 31, after acknowledging that Hamas has links to another terrorist group that has been operating in the Sinai peninsula, and causing widespread death and destruction.

Act now, please help save fellow Christians from genocide!

Some analysts wonder how this hardening attitude will affect Hamas, which is often believed to receive some of its weapons through smugglers operating in the Sinai.

Others worry that Egypt, which is reliant on tourism, may be targeted by Hamas, and may hurt financially in the short run.

"The Egyptian government has taken a dangerous political decision likely to have serious consequences on the country's security. While the country is being subjected to terrorist attacks perpetrated by the Islamist groups which oppose violently the fall of Mohamed Morsi, the country's policy makers have decided to add oil to the fire," said one specialist speaking on a condition of anonymity.

"The impact of such position will be of heavy consequences to the country and its economy. the profits that the country generates from tourism will be seriously affected."

February is a month of love and devotion.

Hamas has also spoken out, issuing a statement which called Egypt's "political decision" as serving "the interests of the occupier (Israel)."

Egypt has now joined both the United States and Israel in declaring the Islamic State a terrorist group, showing that regardless of who is now in control of Egypt, it is not a friend of Islamic extremism.
