Operation ongoing as operatives attempt to penetrate territory

Ten terrorists, believed to be affiliated to the Al Mulathameen Brigade, loyal to Algerian terrorist Mokhtar BelMokhtar were shot and killed earlier this week near the region of Tinzawatine, 2,000 kilometers south of Algiers. The military operation is ongoing. A detachment of joint forces of the People's National Army had intercepted the rebels, which sought to penetrate Algerian territory.

ALGIERS, ALGERIA (Catholic Online) - Algerian security forces have been operating in accordance to information gleaned on the suspicious movements of terrorist groups in the southern part of the country.

The use and implementation of new intelligence has been used by Algerian authorities as an effective means in the fight against terrorism. Rebel groups threaten both the country and its interests, ever since elections were disrupted in the 1990s.

The government has reiterated the commitment of the National People's Army to destroy these criminal gangs, who sometimes take the form of dormant cells being reactivated in the Sahara. These cells pose great concern for Algerian civilians.

It's been more than a year since the attack on the Gas Site in the Amenas, Tiguentourine area on January 16th, 2013. Both al-Qaeda operatives and allied terrorists have returned to Southern Algeria, where they plan to launch terrorist attacks against the country's interests.

Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb have derived different factions operating in the Sahel Region is targeting Algeria due to its commitment to counter terrorism along with all of its funding sources in all over the world.

The seizure by the Algerian Army of heavy weapons raging from rockets smuggled from Libya through Mali and Katyusha rockets corroborate the intention of the al-Qaeda nebula to target Algeria and use its territory to launch terrorist attacks against Western interests in the Sahel Region.
