Newspaper takes Obama to task for backing Syrian rebels

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad used chemical weapons against unarmed civilians. Former Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi granted himself absolute power over Egypt before he was ousted, but according to one Egyptian newspaper, it is U.S. President Barack Obama who is SATAN!  Said newspaper, Al Wafd shows a cartoon of Obama sporting horns against a fiery backdrop.

Egypt's Al Wafd newspaper is calling Obama to task for his support for the Syrian rebels, as well as his threatened potential military strike against Syria.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The newspaper is calling Obama to task for his support for the Syrian rebels, as well as his threatened potential military strike against Syria.

The cartoon also takes pains to depict the numbers "666" emblazoned in the fire.

Among other things, the paper alleges Obama is a member of the Muslim Brotherhood and decries his administration's support for Islamic jihadists in Syria.

It's not the first time Obama has been likened to Ol' Scratch. In the History Channel's "The Bible" miniseries, the actor portraying the devil, Mehdi Ouazzani, bore a striking resemblance to Obama. His likeness was duly noted by viewers and a social-media storm quickly followed.

"The Bible's" producers Roma Downey and Mark Burnett said they were saddened by the media's attention to the issue and denied that they chose actor Mehdi Ouazzani to play the part, based on his alleged resemblance to the President.

Downey said the couple "love the President" and have "nothing but respect" for him, in an interview with Oprah Winfrey in April.

It's all part of common editorial cartoon trend, wherein a public or political figure is demonized. Former U.S. President Richard M. Nixon suffered by far the worst in the leftist press in the 1960s and 1970s. In that era, cartoonists would frequently exaggerate his jowls, unshaven face and shifty eyes - and frequently depict him as either Satan or wearing a Nazi Gestapo uniform.
