There are healthier alternatives to some summer foods.

Obviously, summer has officially arrived. Welcoming summer means welcoming new food, too. Hello to barbecued hot dogs, chicken wings and slushies. What you might not know though is that these foods actually make you fat. Luckily, there are ways to fix that.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - It's important to find dupes to certain foods to maintain your weight, or to prevent gaining a few extra pounds. "Arm yourself with knowledge and plan your meals, and you won't be fighting to fit into your summer clothes," says NutriCentre nutritionist, Cassandra Barnes.

Having said that, here are some examples of summer food that is secretly making you fat, and what food and drinks you can eat instead as substitute:

1. Say no to hotdogs and just go for Bacon rolls.

The usual hot dog you find without the bun, which is probably the ones you might have at a barbeque, has about 250 calories. On the other hand, a couple of bacon may have around 120 calories. If that's not good enough, then it's nice to know that the meat used in bacon is less processed and has fewer artificial flavors and preservatives.

2. Ditch the daiquiris and margaritas.

Try tonics and slimline gin instead. Cocktails and frozen drinks, really contain so many calories; you can blame the extra sugar, coupled with alcohol, for that. Did you know that some frozen drinks contain more than 200 calories per serving? Why not try tonics and slimline gin? They only have around 120 calories.

3. As hard as it may be, forget that ice cream sundae.

Say hello to healthy, frozen yogurt. Even a small serving of an ice cream sundae will include about 350 calories plus 45 grams of sugar. A healthy, frozen yogurt, on the other hand, will only give 150 calories or less.
