MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - Sam Ray, 18, got into the accident on July 2, while working on his vehicle in his driveway. Ray decided to pause his mechanical work for a while, but as he slid out from underneath the truck, the car jack gave way and the vehicle came down on him.
"I just kept praying out loud, 'Lord, get me out of this," and "I kept reciting Philippians 4:13, 'I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,'" explained Ray.
According to Ray, he heard a sound coming from his back pocket; it was Siri, the internet famous voice activated search feature. Despite the situation's danger, Ray was able to use his hip to activate Siri and dial 911, and he soon heard a voice on the other line and began shouting.
"I didn't know if she could hear me or not, but I heard her say that help was just around the corner."
Soon enough, rescuers from the Rutherford County medical, sheriffs and fire departments arrived on the scene and lifted the truck off of Ray and brought him to the medical center for treatment.
He suffered from three broken ribs, a bruised kidney and some burns, among other more minor scrapes and injuries. Ray and his family assert that God helped in his rescue. Ray's mother, Laura Ray, said that her family is "blessed beyond measure."
"We're so thankful that God has allowed us to keep him and that we are allowed to watch him continue to grow," she said.
"I don't know what the future holds, but I would love to help people the way I was helped. It's reassuring to know I'm here for a purpose," expressed Ray. "I could have died underneath that truck. This has reminded me how fragile life is and how little time we have to make a difference."
