Attorney General Holder wants to pursue Zimmerman on civil rights grounds.

Unsatisfied with the jury's failure to find George Zimmerman guilty of murder for defending himself against an attacking Trayvon Martin, Attorney General Eric Holder has promised to pursue civil rights charges against George Zimmerman, if possible. This is Eric Holder, the one who failed to prosecute the heinous actors in the Fast and Furious debacle, the  'Mexican gun running' Eric Holder. He has now called for "our nation to speak honestly about the complicated and emotionally charged issues this case has raised."

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Attorney General Eric Holder said that Trayvon Martin's killing was "a tragic, unnecessary shooting" entirely missing the whole "self-defense" aspect of being beaten to death by an angry assailant determined to smash your skull against concrete.

Although President Obama has pledged to "stay out" of the issue, his administration is doing anything but - seeking instead a way to circumvent the verdict in Florida and retry George Zimmerman for civil rights violations against Trayvon Martin. There were none.

The Florida court ruled, Zimmerman acted lawfully and in self-defense. Defending yourself isn't a civil rights violation. Or, at least it's not supposed to be.

Eric Holder, the one who failed to prosecute the heinous actors in the Fast and Furious debacle, the  'Mexican gun running' Eric Holder, has now called for "our nation to speak honestly about the complicated and emotionally charged issues this case has raised."

Okay. Let's talk about crime and race.

Black people statistically seem to murder more of their own brethren than any other race. Of course, race is being generalized in these statistics. Racial diversity is widespread in America, since the nation is comprised of the descendants of immigrants.

America is populated by dozens of races. Many Americans came from Africa, the majority of whose ancestors were forced into slavery in the fledgling United States. That was wrong. That was immoral. However, they are now Americans.

When we refer to "whites" or "blacks" as two races, we are already engaging in a generalization that is based on skin color, not background, history or even national promise. The genius of the American experiment is that we are supposed to be a melting pot. Yes, we maintain our heritage and our past, but we have come together in an experiment in ordered liberty which is unique in history.

Sadly, it is a fact, that at this superficial level, blacks kill more people than any other group. According to conservative commentator Ben Shapiro, blacks make up 13.1 percent of the population but make up 49 percent of all murder victims. Nearly all are killed by other blacks. Most are male, and range in age from their teens to twenties.

Why is this happening?

Some purported 'experts' indicate it has to do with physical proximity. The most violent places in America are where blacks live alongside blacks.

This isn't intended to say that  violence is inspired or caused by skin color. The violence is said to be a result of poverty, a lack of economic opportunities, and poor educational opportunity. These problems began as a result of historical racism, but much of the past 50 years has been spent fighting this problem - with mixed results.

Two generations into affirmative action, manipulated opportunity-based education, and a wide host of civil-rights laws, black people still murder a disproportionate number of black people. Unfortunately, the main stream media ignores this statistic. In fact, to even report this as a fact, somehow suggests racism.

Except that facts aren't racist. They can't be. The media can be, however, and so can the attorney general - and the president for that matter.

The fact that the media hammers away incessantly at the self-defense killing of a black teenager at the hands of what the media called a 'white-Hispanic', mixed-race victim, suggests that something is amiss.

Meanwhile, similar cases where blacks have killed whites too often go virtually unnoticed. The problem of blacks killing blacks is also ignored. How about the murder rate in Chicago, the President's home town? And yes, whites kill whites, but you never hear much mention of that either.

What you hear of is a 'white' person killing a black person (a gross oversimplification) with Zimmerman's Hispanic heritage ignored, as the media and the race-baiting new left seizes the opportunity to gain political capital, while purporting to be paragons of equality and virtue.

The opposite is true. If the Zimmerman case was about racism, then remember that some of the supporters of Trayvon Martin used a racist slur to describe Zimmerman, referring to him as a "crazy ass cracker". Are they racist? What if Zimmerman had referred to Martin on the 911 call as a "crazy ass nigger?"

Yes, then racism would definitely be an issue, since Zimmerman would have used an incredibly inflammatory racial slur against Martin. Fighting words, so to speak. But apparently "cracker" which is used by some black people to slur whites is okay. It seems that, to some, a black teenager can't possibly be racist no matter what he says in the view of some who are stoking the flames of racial division.

Zimmerman may have 'profiled' Martin, but, he seems to have looked at his youth, his hoodie, his pace of walking, and his weaving between houses as behavior that is consistent with someone perusing a neighborhood for something unlawful.

What will be the result of this trial? God alone knows. May God have mercy on our Nation.
