Five of the ten wealthiest located around the Washington D.C. area

A study has revealed that five out of 10 of the wealthiest counties in the United States are located around the Washington D.C. area. This is likely because the nation's top policy makers, such as federal government workers, lobbyists, lawyers, defense contractors, think-tank experts and political operatives work in and around the nation's capital.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau's Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates, Loudoun County, Va., which lies to the north and west of the District of Columbia, topped the list in 2011, with a median family income of $119,525.
