Actresses take to the red carpet in series of stunning dresses

The 64th Annual Emmy Awards, intended to celebrate excellence in television, gave tinseltown's most notorious beauties to take to the red carpet in a series of stunning evening gowns. For these glamorous women, it was an event to see and be seen - and no one went away disappointed.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Many agreed that Latina actress Sofia Vergara stole the show with her dazzling blue dress. While her acting skills didn't garner an award, all eyes were upon Vergara as she celebrated alongside her award-winning co-stars Eric Stonestreet and Julie Bowen.

Vergara had just celebrated her 40th birthday and proudly displayed her supermodel statistics in a glitzy Zuhair Murad gown with a mermaid tail finish and reverse-halter neckline.

"Do you think I made the right choice?" she asked host Ryan Seacrest. 

The "New Year's Eve" actress, currently engaged to Nick Loeb, arrived with a huge entourage of 20 people, all of whom were her family rather than hired security.

Modern model icon Heidi Klum and actress Nicole Kidman made dramatic statements with color, looking equally ravishing and A-list material.

"Project Runway" Klum opted for an incredibly low-cut Alexandre Vauthier frock, complete with a thigh-high split, saying she was drawn to the creation because of the "sea foam" color.

Stylist Oribe Canales described Klum's hair. "The inspiration for the style is a combination of the Seventies and Nineties. Decadent but sweet, soft but severe."

Nicole Kidman, who attended with husband Keith Urban, wore a beautiful white Antonio Berardi dress with a large sequin reversed wing design, together with Fred Leighton jewels.

The Australian actress told host Seacrest: "I'm in France this Christmas playing Grace Kelly [in the film Grace of Monaco].

"I'm going to get in trouble from the director [Olivier Dahan] for going back sunburned because she was pale.

"When I get back I'll be on set of American Idol next year [visiting Keith in his new role as judge]," Kidman added.

Other stars to join the blue belle brigade included Maria Menounos, Hayden Panettiere, "The Good Wife" actress Archie Panjabi, "Good Morning America's" Lara Spencer and "Suburgatory" star Jane Levy.

Among the most elaborate gowns on display was the one worn by Extra host Maria, who wore an eco-couture gown by Oliver Tolentino, which was hand-woven from the fiber of pineapple leaves and encrusted with over 15,000 crystals.
