Dinosaur fans - don't get your hopes up. The hotly anticipated sequel to the famous dinosaur series, "Jurassic Park 4," intended to be released this summer, has been put on hold.
We're out of a job!
LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - "Universal has decided to release 'Jurassic Park 4' at a later date giving the studio and filmmakers adequate time to bring audiences the best possible version of the fourth installment in Universal's beloved franchise," Universal Studios said in a statement.
"We could not be more excited about the vision that Colin Trevorrow has created for this film, and we look forward to watching as he and the producers create another great chapter in this franchise's storied history."
"Jurassic Park 4" would be the first film in the dinosaur franchise since "Jurassic Park III," which was released 12 long years ago in 2001. The first film, "Jurassic Park", was an adaptation of the Michael Crichton novel and arrived in 1993. The original installment received acclaim for its revolutionary special effects. The first sequel followed in 1997, "The Lost World: Jurassic Park."
Universal's statement follows tweets from members of the Jurassic Park 4 film crew sent earlier this week, which have since been deleted but were captured by film blog, Ain't It Cool News. Concept artist Dean Sherriff wrote: "JP4 on hold" and the film's digital assets manager Todd Smoyer posted: "Hollywood makes and crushes dreams. Goodbye JP4."
The studio has yet to announce a new release date. Director Trevorrow tweeted an image from the first film's setting last week.
Little information has been given for the delay, or the changes Universal want to make to the film to improve it. An on-set source told a blog dedicated to the film that creative differences and Universal's desire to create an "epic" film, led to changes within the crew, causing the delay.
To date, the director had posted one shot that was to serve as the sequel's setting, Isla Nublar, the fictional location of the original "Jurassic Park." Isla Sorna was the setting featured in "The Lost World" and "Jurassic Park III." It appears to be a good bet that the action of the franchise sequel will feature a return to the original park.
The Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment production will be produced by Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley with Steven Spielberg as Executive Producer. The script was written by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, who also penned "Rise of the Planet of the Apes."
