No surprises, no questions - Rocket launchers exchanged for groceries - Los Angeles

Police chief unfazed by the exchange.

Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck told reporters today that he was not surprised at the collection of two rocket launchers at the gun buyback event this week. The event collected over 2,000 firearms including 75 assault rifles and the two rocket launchers.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The event allowed LA residents to exchange guns for gift cards that could be used to buy groceries, no questions asked. Among that haul was two rocket launchers.

Chief Beck said the launchers contained no rockets, so they did not pose any threat to public safety.

Beck was asked if the weapons would be checked for connections to unsolved crimes. Beck said no because the city does not want to deter people from turning in the weapons in the first place.

The weapons will be melted down in the months to come.

By the way, the "rocket launchers" discussed in the article are single use training units. They cannot be reused, and are sold in military surplus stores as decorations for about $50.
