Metropolitan State College of Denver Board of Trustees voted 7-1 to pass a new tuition rate for illegal immigrant students.

DENVER, CO (Catholic Online) - The new rate of $3,358.30 per semester, which, although, greater than in-state students pay is 50% less than the cost for out-of-state students, will be taking effect this fall. The board heard 20 people comment on the debatable rate, which the school produced after the ASSET bill failed in State Legislature. The ASSET bill was meant to lower tuition rates for illegal immigrant students within the state.

"You're leading where the legislature has been unable to go," said State Sen. Pat Stedman, who supports the bill.

Jack Pogge, the only trustee to vote against the rate, stated that the benefit to the college was great enough to move forward.

"It's not our position to do this," Pogge said about the Legislature's decision to kill the ASSET bill.
