Time to stop calling Islam a religion of peace. IT IS NOT!

Islam is the only mainstream religion in the world still spreading by militant means.

The lesson is: freedom of speech does not exist in Islam. A Coptic Christian teacher, Bishoy Kamel will be spending the next six years in an Egyptian prison, and may face danger for the rest of his life for allegedly posting insults against the Prophet Mohammed on his Facebook page.

Children are frequent participants in violent protests in the Islamic world.

Children are frequent participants in violent protests in the Islamic world.

CAIRO, EGYPT (Catholic Online) - Kamel says his Facebook account was hacked and that someone else posted the inflammatory comments. Included in those comments were insults against President Mohamed Morsi, and Mohamed Safwat, the man who accused him.
He was sentenced to three years for insulting the Prophet, two for the president, and one for his accuser.

After he was sentenced and led from court, Muslim protesters tried to attack him, pelting his police car with rocks as he was carried away to jail.

There are two facts that become immediately apparent. The first is that freedom of speech does not exist in Islamic societies where one can face punishment and persecution for verbal or written criticisms.

The second fact is that Islam, at last of the variety that is practiced by violent protestors around the world, cannot in any way be labeled a "religion of peace."

Other religions are typically criticized and satirized in free society. Those acts of free speech are considered offensive to their faithful, but it is only Muslims who react so violently to criticisms of their prophet.

To illustrate this point, this week a satirical American news publication (we will not mention its name) published an incredibly offensive and pornographic image depicting religious figures including Jesus, Moses, Ganesha, and the Buddha and made the editorial point that nobody was killed over the depiction. Likely sickened-yes, but harmed, no.

Militant Islam is more prevalent than many realize. The recent enlistment of an 8-year-old child in the cause of "jihad" in Australia, provides evidence of this.

Islamic leaders around the world must make a decision. This decision is must be made by the leaders of every sect and community within Islam. Either they condemn the violence and actively work towards protecting all, even those who would criticize them, or they face the world's judgment as they themselves nullify any claim to being a peaceful religion.

This includes those who sit silently, as their brothers and cousins throw stones at imprisoned bloggers.

How interesting to note that Islam is the only mainstream religion on the planet still spreading by militant means.

    KarlVDH & David,

Just for your information, my Father is a Muslim. He provided me with 2 Quran's to read. I saw all this vile information in the Quran and Hadith's, they're other book. I cross-referenced it with the second Quran and it tallied up 100%. and yes, I have Muslim friends. When I showed them this vile book, they remained speechless. The racism is horrendous! and I did provide all the quotes from online Quran's, Hadith's and even from Wikipedia in regards to what some scholars have said. The Muslims who are peaceful and are no harming other, Muslim's like my Father are NOT REAL MUSLIMS!

Yes there is some vile stuff in the old testament, hence why Jesus came and scrapped the bad things in the New testament such as rape and 'eye for an eye'. The Quran doesnt have a old and new testament or equivalent in there book. Also my Mother in law who is from Iran and converted to Catholicism confirmed what Im saying is true.

Rafael, did you even bother to cross-reference your quotes with the Quran? Your quotes don't correspond with the passages you reference.

And since when did the Catholic Church stop condemning non-believers to Hell? It seems like they used to make a big deal about that. Wasn't that the rationale behind the Crusades, the extermination of the Cathars, the religious wars fought against the Protestants, and the summary execution of indigenous people all over the world? Wasn't the church trying to save their souls?

With respect, Rafael... I've read it too, and something you're ignoring is that our own Bible contains passages which are just as bloodthirsty, violent, racist, exclusionary and anti-woman.
If you dispute that, I'd call your attention to the Old Testament. Calls for genocide, rape, assasination, enslavement of the conquered, ethnic exclusion and racial cleansing abound. I can provide passages if you wish.
The point is, WE interpret thoe passages, usually, as not literal; not necessarily instructions for us, here, now and today.
And you know what? Neither do the vast VAST majority of peace-loving, rational Muslims around the world.
Having read the Koran, I'd challenge you to spend some time among Muslims and learn about the PEOPLE and how they really practice their religion before taking some verses from here and there and making them into a bigger wal to separate us as people.
If we're ging to sit here and claim the Jihadists andd terrorists are representatives of what Islam is really about, we have to then examine our OWN faith's history of violence and explain why what we choose to define them by doesn't apply to ourselves.
Clearly, we aren't a faith represented by greedy crusaders, or bloody inquisitions. I don't think anyone here would argue that we should allow the whole of the Christian faith to be defined by the behavior of the Ku Klux Klan.
Nor should we allow Islam to be defined by the radicals and maniacs who have usurped and coopted the public face of what IS a religion of peace.
We, particularly Catholics, should be at the vanguard of those brave souls seeking common ground and standing with those who stand against the Jihadists. We should NOT be the ones further dividing humanity.

Let's clear this up once and for all: The Quran (and I am talking because I have read the book), is violent, racist & a religion that completely benefits men, and no women. I will list proof, along with the links provided so you can verify what I am saying. This text is in the Quran & he Hadith's - another one of there books:

    An-Nisa 4.34
"Men are (meant to be righteous and kind) guardians of women because God
has favored some more than others and because they (i.e. men) spend out of
their wealth. (In their turn) righteous women are (meant to be) devoted
and to guard what God has (willed to be) guarded even though out of sight
(of the husband). As for those (women) on whose part you fear ill-will and
nasty conduct, admonish them (first), (next) leave them alone in beds (and
last) BEAT or separate them (from you). But if they obey you, then seek
nothing against them. Behold, God is most high and great.

    Ishaq 234
I heard the Apostle say: 'Whoever wants to see Satan should look at
Nabtal!' He was a black man with long flowing hair, inflamed eyes, and
dark ruddy cheeks.... Allah sent down concerning him: 'To those who annoy
the Prophet there is a painful doom."

    Surat [9:61]
"Gabriel came to Muhammad and said, 'If a black man comes to you his heart
is more gross than a donkey's"

    Surat Al-Imran Ayat (3:85)
Whoever prefers a religion other than Islam, it shall definitely not be
accepted from him; and in the Hereafter, he shall be among the losers.

(So it says basically only Muslims go to heaven - Jews and Christians will
go to hell - what other meaning does 'loser' mean!? In Christianity, no
matter the religion of you lead a good pure generous life you will go to
    heaven.)

    [al-Bayyinah 98:6]
“Verily, those who disbelieve (in the religion of Islam, the Qur’aan and
Prophet Muhammad) from among the people of the Scripture (Jews and
Christians) and Al-Mushrikoon will abide in the fire of Hell. They are the
    worst of creatures”

Anas bin Malik: Allah's Apostle said, "You should listen to and obey, your
ruler even if he was an Ethiopian (black) slave whose head looks like a
    raisin."

Ahmad ibn Abi Sulayman, the companion of Sahnun said, “Anyone who says
that the Prophet was black should be killed. Ibn Musa al-Yahsubi, Qadi
    ‘Iyad

Abu Dharr reported: The Messenger of 'Allah (may peace be upon him) said:
When any one of you stands for prayer and there is a thing before him
equal to the back of the saddle that covers him and in case there is not
before him (a thing) equal to the back of the saddle, his prayer would be
cut off by (passing of an) ass, woman, and black Dog. I said: O Abu Dharr,
what feature is there in a black dog which distinguish it from the red dog
and the yellow dog? He said: O, son of my brother, I asked the Messenger
of Allah (may peace be upon him) as you are asking me, and he said: The
black dog is a devil. Sahih Muslim 4:1032

    And on the day of resurrection you shall see those who lied against Allah;
their faces shall be blackened. Is there not in hell an abode for the
    proud? - Qur'an 39:60

"Therefore, the Negro nation are, as a rule, submissive to slavery,
because [Negroes] have little [that is essentially] human and have
attributes that are quite similar to those of dumb animals, as we have
    stated." - Ibn Khaldun, Muqaddimah

"beyond [known peoples of black West Africa] to the south there is no
civilization in the proper sense. There are only humans who are closer to
dumb animals than to rational beings. They live in thickets and caves, and
eat herbs and unprepared grain. They frequently eat each other. They
cannot be considered human beings." - Ibn Khaldun, Muqaddimah

    Charles,
You obviously are ignorant of the basic teaching of Islam and of Mumammad. Islam is nothing but an totalitarian ideology with a veneer of religiosity. The Quran and the Hadith (the sayings and deeds of Muhammad) promote the conquest, death, and/or slavery for non-Muslims. Islam seeks the world-wide imposition of Sahria law. I urge you to educate yourself by reading Rober Spencer's two books: The Truth About Muhammad and The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam. You should also daily read Jihad Watch on the Internet to see how Islam is waging war in so many places on the planet and how the religious leaders are promotin jihad. Of course, this is in keeping with the history of the spread of Islam by violence; Islam is the only "religion" that does not have the Golden Rule. Do you know that Saint Lawrence of Brindisi led Christian armies against larger Muslim forces in Hungary in the 1600's. He was in front of the army with a crucifix. He was not even wounded, and the Christians were victorious. Saint John of Cupertino also led a Christian army against Muslims. We must resist Islam.

@well: Catholics understand blasphemy as a denigration of holy things. We are against blasphemy because it insults God and degrades the blasphemer. To kill the blasphemer (or any handy Christian nearby) doesn't please God, but adds to the sin. We make reparation with extra prayers or penances on behalf of those who didn't know better. That spreads peace.

Christianity has never been a religion of strength, but one of humility, poverty, and oblation. Natural law supports property rights and the means of self defense, but such arms are not the right way to extend Christendom. The truth spreads by its own merits, expressed in myriad forms of love.

Finally, if "jihad" were being visibly waged around the world with violence and destruction, as a Muslim, I would do two things: I would strongly disavow those violent actions as inconsistent with my faith, and avoid putting their language on a placard for my 8-yr-old to carry, because the potential for misunderstanding is great.

@Bill Sr. very well said sir.

I predict that in this century there will be a war of terrible consequences. At some point, there will be a confrontation between the big powers, created by many different fronts.....oil, religion, power, food. It is not going to be pretty but I'm with you. Unless the U.S. comes back to its roots, Christianity, then your country will be in dire straits, along with all the rest of us Western countries. And I'm not sure the current president is the one to solve your problems.

You're right Bill Sr., this will be labelled as hate-speech because that is exactly what it is. I don't know if you or the author of this diatribe are Catholic; but the Pope has been trying to quell these kind of hateful antics from both the Christian and Muslim world for sometime. Your rhetoric of warfare and swords...I think I can spot the lunatic ;-)

I just want to say that critisism and mocking are two different things. Critic is an academic thing while mocking is a childish one.

It's worth keeping in mind that Muslims consider any depiction of any prophet including Jesus and Moses blasphemy.
As for the whole Religion of peace thing "Peace through strength" is an ancient phrase and concept implying that strength of arms is a necessary component of peace.
In regards to the 8 year old girl speaking about "jihad" she was speaking about how children in Syria carried food and water to rebel forces.
    Just saying....
