MENZINGEN (Catholic Online) - The Superior General of the Society of the Priestly Society of St. Pius X, Bishop Bernard Fellay, issued the following Press Release:
Press Release from the Superior General of the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X
The excommunication of the bishops consecrated by His Grace Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, on June 30, 1988, which had been declared by the Congregation for Bishops in a decree dated July 1, 1988, and which we had always contested, has been withdrawn by another decree mandated by Benedict XVI and issued by the same Congregation on January 21, 2009.
We express our filial gratitude to the Holy Father for this gesture which, beyond the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X, will benefit the whole Church. Our Society wishes to be always more able to help the pope to remedy the unprecedented crisis which presently shakes the Catholic world, and which Pope John Paul II had designated as a state of “silent apostasy.”
Besides our gratitude towards the Holy Father and towards all those who helped him to make this courageous act, we are pleased that the decree of January 21 considers as necessary “talks” with the Holy See, talks which will enable the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X to explain the fundamental doctrinal reasons which it believes to be at the origin of the present difficulties of the Church.
In this new atmosphere, we have the firm hope to obtain soon the recognition of the rights of Catholic Tradition
Menzingen, January 24, 2009, +Bernard Fellay

Thank God for hearing our Prayers and for the prayers of Our Blessed Mother and all the Saints in Heaven as well as the prayers of every Traditional Catholic.
Just because it was 25 years later doesn't mean it wasn't due to the SVC. SVC thought they could get rid of the traditional faith after the passing of some of the cardinals who fought to keep the traditional faith and we know that in good conscience Marcel Lefebvre could not let "hold fast to tradition" die. Just to please those that allowed the devil to enter the church.
As a Catholic we should all be rejoicing in this good news. Traditional and Novus ordo, we are starting down the path of coming together as one church as Our Lord Jesus Christ had intended and as it should be. I pray for Pope Benidict, there will be tough times ahead.
Also just as Our Lord and Savior had deciples leave, "Therefore did I say to you, that no man can come to me, unless it be given him by my Father. 67 After this many of his disciples went back; and walked no more with him. 68 Then Jesus said to the twelve: Will you also go away? 69 And Simon Peter answered him: Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. 70 And we have believed and have known, that thou art the Christ, the Son of God." John 6.
As A traditional Catholic where would we go? We believe and have known that the teachings of the Traditional Catholic Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ through whom we recieve eternal life and that the traditional mass is that of Christ's.
I Pray that every Traditional Catholic continue to pray for the conversion of sinners and for the continuation of SVC Catholics to return to that which was never lost thanks to faith of a few men who risked great persicution for the greater glory of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
God Bless.

Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre was excommunicated in 1988.
It was clearly not due to the second Vatican Council, as it was some 25 years earlier.
However, this legitimate Council of the Church is the true stumbling block for these poor souls.
