It has been an answer to prayer! On Thursday, June 27th 2002, the United States Supreme Court ruled
that States may return tax dollars, in the form of vouchers or credits,
to parents in order to enable them to make the choice of where to
send their children to school. That choice now includes SENDING THEIR CHILDREN TO PAROCHIAL OR "RELIGIOUS" SCHOOLS! This ruling could transform not only your own children's lives, but the lives and futures of millions of children in America who are trapped in poorly performing schools. It could also change the very face of education in America. Millions of Catholic families that have always wanted to send their children to Catholic schools could now afford to make that choice. Additionally, millions of other families who see the extraordinary value of a Catholic education could now make that same choice! Catholics across the country have been praying for and counting upon the Supreme Court to rule fairly and favorably on the parental voucher issue for many years. Now that the issue of voucher tuition has cleared any Constitutional issues and been ruled upon by the High Court, the real work begins. All of the State legislatures around the country now have the ability to begin working on legislation that will create school voucher programs. Believe it or not there will be special interest groups that will pressure them not to do this. The Catholic community needs to let the legislators in each of our States know that we are encouraging them to do the right thing and create the programs that will allow us to afford to give not only our own kids, but thousands of others a great education. We must tell our elected officials that we urgently need school voucher programs. When you sign the petition below you will be adding your name to a list of many others who will stand up for the right to choose to send your children to the school of their choice including our fine Catholic Schools. This petition will be given to your individual State officials urging them to stand tall and create the laws that will help all of our kids. Our children's education has all too often been woefully inadequate due to poorly performing schools, dangerous classrooms, a loss of educational quality, and a lack of the instilling of proper values in our children.
