ASTONISHING! See what happened when this Make-A-Wish kid wished for more wishes
Gabrielle Miller wanted more wishes for other kids.
Wish is a wish, so if you only have one, why not wish for more wishes? That's what nine-year-old Gabriella Miller wished for, and the response she got may surprise you.
Gabrielle Miller with her mother. Gabrielle wished for more wishes and got 36 more for other kids.
Gabrielle was granted her wish to see Paris, France, but the whole time she could not help but think of other children who couldn't have their last wishes granted. With these children on her mind, Gabriella did what any kid short on wishes might do, she asked for more wishes.
Specifically, she asked for people to participate in Macy's "Believe" campaign, which donates a dollar to the Make-A-Wish foundation for every hand-written letter it receives to Santa.
Working through social media, Gabrielle started a campaign with the help of a family friend and charity worker, Chris Croll. The goal they set was to have 10,000 letters sent to a center set up by Croll. And the campaign went viral. According to Croll, letters came from as far away as Saudi Arabia.
The campaign started just before the Thanksgiving holiday and in just one month, the center received just over 240,000 letters. Delivered to Macy's, the kindly retail giant has announced it will give $250,000 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and another $250,000 in honor of Gabriella.
How many wishes is the money going to buy? According to the Foundation, about 36.
Several children have written especially touching letters to Santa through the campaign. At least one read, "Dear Santa, please find a cure for cancer."
At a special ceremony addressing Santa Claus, Gabriella took the microphone at a local Macy's, just before Christmas. She told a tearful crowd, "This is my motto and I think you should use it too. You might have a bad day today, but there's always a bright star to look forward to tomorrow. Look inside, what's your bright star? Thank you. Happy holidays."
And what about Gabriella's wish? The Foundations says she still gets to go to Paris. Gabriella and her family hopes to hear that other children are getting some of those extra wishes too.
