The Devil went down to Georgetown

Kathleen Sebelius, Catholic public enemy no. 2, to speak at Georgetown University.

If it were a song it would be called, "The Devil Went Down to Georgetown." But this isn't a song - it's reality. Kathleen Sebelius, who has openly dissented from the teaching of the Church and drawn the ire of so many Catholics and other Christians, has been invited to speak at an awards ceremony at the supposedly Catholic Georgetown University in Washington DC.

Georgetown University, as Catholic as Kathleen Sebelius.

Georgetown University, as Catholic as Kathleen Sebelius.

WASHINGTON DC (Catholic Online) - Georgetown claims to be a Catholic university - much the same way Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius claims to be Catholic.

Sebelius is a rare breed of Catholic, she has been warned by her bishop against receiving communion for her participation and advocacy in encouraging and facilitating contraceptive use, sterilizations, abortifacients, and abortions. So she has already placed herself outside of the communion of the Church by her own actions under Canon law. Her next step may be a more formal excommunication if she persists to flagrantly act against the Church she claims to belong to in the name of advancing an evil, secular agenda.

Unfortunately, Georgetown is not such a rare breed of Catholic university, infected with the evil of moral relativism, which is common it seems in public schools, but should be unheard of in Catholic.

Georgetown announced Sebelius's invitation on Friday afternoon via blog post. "This afternoon," the post reads, "Georgetown announced the speakers for each school's commencement address. Here is the list." Sebelius appears as number 13 on a list of 15 speakers.

The school later clarified that she would not be speaking at a commencement where degrees would be conferred, but rather at an awards ceremony.

Burying her name on the list and diminishing the importance of her address does little to assuage the ire of faithful Catholics who find the invitation at best to be in poor taste, if not downright infuriating.

Kathleen Sebelius has been under fire from the Church since her days as an anti-life governor of Kansas, and later as the Secretary of Health and Human Services for President Obama. In August, she announced that nearly all health care plans would be required to provide women with sterilizations, contraceptives, abortifacients, for free.

Such an edict flies in the face of the First Amendment, religious freedom and good sense.

Her edict made no exception for religious institutions and individuals (it still doesn't) thus trampling underfoot the freedom of conscience of every American -- even those that would support the move. It is also an amazing feat of Orwellian doublespeak that drugs and procedures that are explicitly anti-life would be made available for free and called "health care" when if the same woman needed medication or a genuine life-saving procedure there would be at least a co-pay involved.

We have money to kill babies, but not to heal the sick. And the agent of this evil is awarded with a red-carpet platform at a Catholic university.

Catholics are angry at this stunt, and reasonably so. The high priests who should be trusted experts on the faith are metaphorically inviting the money changers into the temple. And this is just the latest in a disturbing trend.

Earlier in the year, Catholic Healthcare West, the largest Catholic hospital system in the western US secularized and became "Dignity Health." Although Dignity Health pledges they will remain faithful to Catholic doctrine, the institution is no longer a ministry of the Catholic church and no longer answers to the Church hierarchy in any way. The door is open - to evil.

And just last week a former Catholic priest in Australia announced he was living a double life as a married man and alleged that there were many others like him.

Catholics are tired of seeing their most sacred institutions, schools, hospitals, and churches being infiltrated by those whose agenda is evil. Pedophiles, liberal clergy, atheist administrators, and confusion amongst rank-and-file parishioners over what is right and wrong are clear evidence that the Church is at war.

Can there be any doubt that a battle royale rages between the agents of good and evil within the Church?

Catholics cannot rest while the devil goes down to Georgetown.

Has not HHS Sebelius understood when Jesus told Pilate who used the power from God against the Son which in that case was intended to be to the purpose of death & resurrection of Jesus to the redemption of man & against this is what HHS does using the same power except that her works amount to Betrayal of Faith hidden in Politics to a Georgetown university membership, as was with Judas Iscariot contracted to the learned , for even the line of Betrayals continues in the order of the numbers to the adversary's agendas, the adversary of man itself.

RDalton... you couldn't be more wrong. There's nothing "phony" about expecting the Church to live upp to its own teachings. Yes, Jesus said "go and sin no more," but where did he ever even MENTION her sin? He forgave her, annd picked her up off the ground... he didn't gleeully join in the bashing.
The "religious" folks using their faith as a reason to judge her... THEY got his scorn. AS THEY ALWAYS DID. It wasn't the common sinner, but the religious Pharisee Jesus publicly castigated.
The money changers? People using the things of God to get rich? Tread lightly there, friend. I doubt we share views on that, either.
And as for Pelosi et. al... "Put not your trust in the princes of this world." If you think a Republican would sell you out any less joyfully, you're partisan and foolish. Meanwhile... what WOULD Jesus say to them? I cannot imagine it'd be much different than what he told the Adulteress. Jesus NEVER held the ignorrant or unreligious to the same standard to whhich he held his own followers and the religious folks who use their belief to be better than others.
In short, we do NOT have some divine permission to belittle people because they don't match our religio-political beliefs... that's pride, arrogance, and it has little place on a website headed by the word "Catholic."
    Your mileage may vary.

First, let us ask ourselves, why a Catholic college is anti-Catholic? Answers Anyone? I do agree that both actions and words speak of ones character and belief. How can it not? Unless someone is forcing her...and I do not think so, I believe that she does this of her own Free Will. Hate the sin and love the sinner. Yes. But it is hard. Especially taking into accountability the degree of the sin. This has always been a really hard one for me...as what about murders (allowing babies to be aborted)? Hitler, I mean, where does one really draw the line? Could you forgive them if they killed your child? Just thoughts. Like I said, hard. Georgetown is known more academically than for it being a Catholic college. This is what Our Holy Father was speaking of: Catholic colleges must address the mind, as well as the Catholic heart. Too many of our Catholic schools are not. Please pray for our Holy Father's intentions. Blessings...

In response to Prisca, Karl, Mark, and all the others out there who put forward this phony "she is our sister..." and "...who are we to sit in judgement..." argument -- well, I for one will use my God given intelligence and Understanding (which is one of the Seven gifts of the Holy Spirit along with Wisdom, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety, and Fear of the Lord) to discern that this woman has separated herself from the Catholic Community and she is telling the rest of us that we should join her in defying our God. Indeed, we should pray for her salvation but you my friends are wrong to publicly defend someone who consistently encourages, facilitates and publicly participates in evil. Your defense of Ms. Sebelius continues to confuse and "muddy the waters" for many an impressionable Catholic. Perhaps a read thru the New Testament again would sharpen your prudence in whom you choose to defend in future. Christ said--to the sinner ...go and sin no more, He was angry with the money changers throwing them out of the temple, what do you think Christ would do with the likes of Kathleen Sebelius, Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, et. al. who consistently mock the teachings of the Catholic Church which is Christ present???
May God be with you all.

While I don't believe it is sacred to call others devils, I do believe that the church should strongly condemn and criticize the wrongful actions of its members. We should hate the sin and not the sinner and pray for the sinner. To be honest am glad the Catholic church is becoming less passive to condemning sin. Lets all take a moment to pray that our thoughts and writings will build the church of christ and tear it down.

What I don't understand is why nobody is bringing up the fact that the Dean of the GPPI Georgetown Public Policy Institute, the college that is inviting Sebelius, is a huge figure in the Obama administration. He's a major player -- a huge big wig in the Obama administration. His current stint as Dean of Georgetown's GPPI allows him to make all sorts of in your face policy decisions against the Catholic church. And he's not the only one who has migrated over from the Obama team to the Georgetown faculty. Do a little research and see for yourself.
That's really important because what it means is that the Obama administration is inviting someone from the Obama administration to speak -- not anyone else. Georgetown is not inviting someone to speak who has declared war on the Catholic Church; Obama's administrator, who happens to be on the faculty of Georgetown, is inviting someone to speak who has declared war on the Catholic church.
Just take it all -- everything that so called "Georgetown" says---with a grain of salt. Whenever you hear about Georgetown, understand that it is the Obama administration speaking through them, and not the Catholic Church. If they wanted to have more credibility than that, they'd have disclosed their close relationship with the Obama administration by now. No full disclosure--no more credibility. You guys got caught with your hand in the cookie jar.
Finally, go ahead and check out the faculty list for yourself. Do a little research -- you'll be surprised at what you find. And if your kids are headed for college -- I'd rethink Georgetown and find a place where values and honesty--let alone the Catholic faith---actually matter.

As Catholics we have to stand united in defending the church's teachings. There is no place for supporting or making excuses for these liberal politicians. I challenge all Catholics to stand firm in supporting the church and defending the church's teachings.

The devil reference is intended to be over the top. The comments about evil are right on target. Abortion is evil. Google images of aborted babies and tell yourself abortion is not evil. Go to Right to Life.com and educate yourself on partial birth abortion and tell yourself that is not evil. As a serious Catholic or Christian person, you simply can not take the position that you are against abortion but respect others for their Pro Choice positions. You dont think murder is OK but you respect those that do feel it is OK to take another person's life. Come on....don't allow our culture to make you lose your way like that.

Remember.....there are roughly 130 million Americans who attend church every week. That is many more votes than what is required to elect a president. Obama won by a large margin. His total vote count was around 69 million. No question Christians have the power to change this country. Many Christians have not figured this out yet. Liberals don't think they ever will.

Please consider writing a polite email to Cardinal Wuerl asking him to put a stop to this scandalous situation taking place in his archdiocese.

"Let him who is without sin cast the first stone."

Apparently, this is translated by both the author and this site's editors as, "engage in namecalling, accusation, and above all, attack and demean a brother or sister when they are found to be in sin. Because... you know, the rest of us are living holy lives."

Let me ask... if this is what we Catholics have to offer a dying world, why the hell should they pay us ANY attention or show us ANY respect at all? We deserve what we get.

From the above article, "Catholics are tired of seeing their most sacred institutions, schools, hospitals, and churches being infiltrated by those whose agenda is evil. Pedophiles, liberal clergy, atheist administrators, and confusion amongst rank-and-file parishioners over what is right and wrong are clear evidence that the Church is at war".

Absolutely correct! So I believe God has been calling us through His mother to change in many places in this world. Fatima, Lourdes, and probably Medjugorje. This is our test in our lives. Will we adopt the correct philosophy of life or continue to justify our actions by calling good bad and bad good? Will we continue to stand by in the name of tolerance? And so we pray!
