Killing the Holy Innocents: Governments that Fund Abortion are the New Herods

Abortion is a barbaric practice which kills children

Every child killed by voluntary abortion is a "Holy Innocent". Every politician who supports this killing, implicitly or explicitly, carries on the evil actions of Herod. On this Feast of the Holy Innocents let us summon a new resolve to bring an end to the slaughter of the holy innocents in this hour. Time to end the funding of Planned Parenthood and the slaughter of the Holy Innocents.

As we approach the beginning of the year 2011 we must place at the top of the list of our resolutions bringing an end to the funding of Planned Parenthood and an end to the slaughter of the Holy Innocents.

As we approach the beginning of the year 2011 we must place at the top of the list of our resolutions bringing an end to the funding of Planned Parenthood and an end to the slaughter of the Holy Innocents.

CHESAPEAKE, VA. (Catholic Online) - On December 28 in the Octave of Christmas we commemorate the Feast of the Holy Innocents in the Catholic Church. The readings for the Mass remind us that evil has no respect for life. There is an ongoing struggle between life and death, darkness and light, and those of us called to continue the redemptive mission of Jesus, the Light of the world, are engaged in the conflict.

The first reading for the Mass of the Feast of the Holy Innocents is taken from the 1st letter of the beloved disciple John, 'This is the message that we have heard from Jesus Christ and proclaim to you: God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all. If we say, "We have fellowship with him," while we continue to walk in darkness, we lie and do not act in truth." (I John 5)

We are celebrating the Octave of the Nativity of the Lord, Christmas. Sometimes Christmas is referred to as the Feast of the Incarnation. In fact, the Incarnation is much broader in its implications. The Word became Incarnate immediately upon the response given by Mary to the invitation of the Lord delivered through the Angel.

He was conceived by the Holy Spirit. The moment He was conceived, the Incarnation began. Jesus Christ lived through every age and every stage of development. He is identified with every child from the moment of conception.

Medical science confirms what the Natural Law and our conscience long ago told all of us, the child in the womb is one of us. We all know it. We routinely operate on her when she needs our help and place her back in her first home of the womb until birth. We prosecute a criminal who, in committing a crime against his mother, kills him as well.

The abortion lie has been revealed in its wretched ugliness. Every procured abortion is the intentional killing of an innocent child. No-one who continues to support it is a friend of the poor. The baby in the womb is, as Mother Teresa so clearly reminded us, the "poorest of the poor". Defenders of abortion on demand hate the poor. Any Nation which protects in the positive law the taking of innocent human life in the womb, calling it a "right" and a "choice" is participating in evil and promoting darkness.

The Gospel for the Mass on the Feast of the Holy Innocents reminds us of how evil infects those who fail to hear the cry of the poor and serve in government. The example given is Herod, a ruler inebriated with his own power. He ruled unjustly while claiming to be doing exactly the opposite:

"When Herod realized that he had been deceived by the magi, he became furious. He ordered the massacre of all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had ascertained from the magi. Then was fulfilled what had been said through Jeremiah the prophet: A voice was heard in Ramah, sobbing and loud lamentation; Rachel weeping for her children, and she would not be consoled, since they were no more'.

Rachel still weeps in our day. The US Government carries on the evil of Herod by funding the killing of Holy Innocents. For example, in calendar year 2008/2009 Planned Parenthood received $363 million in government grants and contracts. This money was extracted from the US taxpayer and used to kill 324,008 children in the womb.

Planned Parenthood is built on a deadly lie. They have dressed themselves up as a "Health Care Provider" and they include the taking of the lives of innocent children in the womb as a "service" under their offering of "reproductive services". They have insinuated themselves into the global delivery of "medical services" receiving massive government funding.

There is nothing "reproductive" about abortion. It is certainly not a service to the child, the mother, the father or society. Nor is it ever "health care". It is feticide, the killing of children. Funding it is morally repugnant. Planned Parenthood is the leading institutional champion of a culture which has redefined "choice" to include killing young innocent human life and "freedom" to include the commission of unspeakable horrors against an entire class of people, children in the first home of the whole human race.

The Office of Readings in the Liturgy of the Hours on the Feast of the Holy Innocents offers the sermon of St Quodvultdeus, a deacon and Church father of the 5th century, entitled "Even before they learn to speak, they proclaim Christ" for our reflection today:

"A tiny child is born, who is a great king. Wise men are led to him from afar. They come to adore one who lies in a manger and yet reigns in heaven and on earth. When they tell of one who is born a king, Herod is disturbed. To save his kingdom he resolves to kill him, though if he would have faith in the child, he himself would reign in peace in this life and forever in the life to come.

"Why are you ...

Our greatest task is to spread the gospel of Jesus to a darkened world. The end of abortion will come only if the Holy Spirit convinces the perpetrators of their unspeakable sin.

God Bless people like Ryan and others who support life.

We do speak out there you just have to check it out.

Like I said Priests for Life Website and others who support life are out there.

We need to support our people from the Bishop on out to the laity.

When you see someone praying in front of the abortion mill and you cant join pray for them and honk that horn in support.

Write your Representatives and if your at the March let him know that your out there and look out his/her window. Let them know what this country really is---Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness not artificiality.

Get the real message out there. Were killing the saints and were all sinners.

You maybe onto something but one thing I will tell you is going against the Bishops who do speak against abortion and I have heard them do so on EWTN, check out Priests for Life, Silent No More and how about the Bishops/priests who go out to the abortion mills and pray in front of them.

Check out Human Life International as well. They are speaking out but the government is ignoring them because it has an agenda for us and the world when it comes to womens reproduction rights. Its called the power at the UN to.

The Bishops are up against this but is we laypeople arent behind the Bishops then why bother.

Our own people dont practice Natural Family Planning, they like to live together before the real courtship process which is used in the Catholic Church and they, some support women's choices how do you expect them to fight against this. Now they are because some of us are going on the March in Washington and now on the West Coast. We have to march bigger and harder. We the laity have to write our Representatives and educate the public through the Priests for Life and Human Life International. We have to have better options for the women in this world instead of throwing out the nonsense which is so called more convenient.

We need to educate our teenagers better with abstinance programs that they have better options in life and they can say no to sex before they are married.

Right now you have forces in this world that want this blood sacrifice and some of the human forces dont even realize they are aiding and abetting an evil force in the world. They excuse it as choice for everyone. Now Im not arguing with you just giving some kind of idea why the Bishops are frustrated and trying to get through to our people and the world.

THE NATURAL LAW BELONGS TO EVERYONE. Until we respect it like a farmer and his wife we are blind sophisticates moving around in the darkness.

Diane - you are historically correct, First the unborn, then the physically and mentally disabled, and then those who disagree with the government IF citizens are unable to defend themselves. Complete power breeds tyranny.

Deacon Keith Thank You for spreading the truth. God will change hearts and put a stop to this evil.

Very good article and the Deacon has put it perfectly. Continue to work peacefully and prayerfully in prolife, but, never, never, never let the gov't take your guns and don't elect anyone who wants to repeal our right to bear arms. Germany legalised abortion in 1925, then Hitler outlawed citizens from owning guns. Look what happened to them under the Nazis(National Socialist Party of Germany) Abortion is violent murder of many innocent and defenseless US citizens, and yes, the bully boys will come for you and me.They are beginning to form already.

No offense Deacon Keith Fournier, your article was well written with many good words, but unfortunately, nothing I repeat, nothing will change, since we are going on 30+ years of this ungodly mass murder of the unborn, barring divine intervention. I've heard these words and arguments over and over again but nothing will change until the bishops come on board, fully and enforce , Canon 915 as Judith Brown of ALL, and many others have been urging. I do not understand why the bishops will not recognize the hugeness of this massive crime and take the necessary actions. We need strong words and actions from them and strong sermons at our Masses about the evil of abortion. I have asked through letters to many clergy to explain to me,but they never have, what's the difference of a man, in the 1940s wearing a black uniform who may have never once personally killed anyone but killed many through signing documents and orders versus a so-called Catholc politician with an 80 to 100% positive rating with NARAL and who votes and promotes abortion. The result is the same, untold mass murder. THIS IS WHAT OUR BISHOPS HAVE TO AND MUST ADDRESS. They no longer have much creditbility.

Herod was considered an Antichrist by early Christians. Like the Roman emperors that persecuted the Church. Today, what are you saying? You are lumping Obama into the same group. For that, TSA will grope you, ground you, and eventually take you away....Borderline domestic terrorist....is this article ever so slightly veiled hate speech? according to the Empire's regulations, I would say it is. Jesus used parables in the beginning, but after the death of John the Baptist, Jesus went to plain language.
"whited sepulchers" "hypocrites" etc...cf. the 7 maledictions of Jesus. see you in Gitmo. :-)
