Honor Among Killers: President Obama Awards Gloria Steinem Medal of Freedom Comments

Awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom to an unworthy recipient such as Gloria Steinem tarnishes not only the medal, but the entire country. Abortion, an unspeakable moral crime, is now a centerpiece of one of our National political parties, and a priority of our Citizen-in-Chief. The evil has become so institutionalized that its advocacy is now to be given a place of honor through the bestowal of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the ... Continue Reading

There is absolutely no need to compare this in any way to Hitler of other Nazis. This is just blown out of proportion, over 50% of Catholics voted for Obama so they must agree with him.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women and Blessed is The Fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God pray for us sinners now, Amen.
(Come to our help oh God; Lord, hurry to our rescue.)

Vance, I am sorry but I cannot accept your conclusions concerning our priesthood. I hope you are not offended, for I really don't mean to offend. My interest is God and His Church including our souls.
Now, Language and emotions can be used to frame any argument. Historical events and comparisons can be used with emotional language to support any position. Thus, there needs to be something more substantial to steer our arguments lest we end up with conclusions that are not truthful. Do you mind then, if I premise my conclusion at this time with the Bible, so that I may apply sound reasoning and draw a conclusion that is in accordance with Jesus' Way:
    1. Hebrews 13:17-19: Obey your leaders and do as they tell you, because they must give an account of the way they look after your souls; make this a joy for them to do, and not a grief - you yourselves would be the losers ... pray for us ... "
    2. 1Peter 2:1-3: "Be sure, then, you are never spiteful, or deceitful, or hypocritical, or envious and critical of each other. You are new born, and, like babies, you should be hungry for nothing but milk - the spiritual honesty which will help you to grow up to salvation ..."
    3. 1John 1:5-7: "God is Light; there is no darkness in Him at all ..."
    4. 3 John 9-11: "... but Diotrephes, who seems to enjoy being in charge of it [the Church] refuses to accept us ... he not only refuses to welcome our brothers, but prevents the other people who would have liked to from doing it, and expels them from the Church. My dear friend, never follow such a bad example, but keep following the good one ... "
    5. Jude 8-10: " ... in their delusions, they not only defile their bodies and disregard authority, but abuse the glorious angels as well. Not even the archangel Michael, when he was engaged in argument with the devil about the corpse of Moses, dared to denounce him in the language of abuse; all he said was, "Let the Lord correct you." But these people abuse anything they do not understand ..."
    6. Titus 1:15-16: "To all who are pure themselves, everything is pure; but to those who have been corrupted and lack faith, nothing can be pure - the corruption is both in their minds and in their consciences. They claim to have knowledge of God but the things they do are nothing but a denial of Him; they are outrageously rebellious and quite incapable of doing good."
7.1Timothy 2:8: "In every place, then, I want the men to lift their hands up reverently in prayer, with no anger or argument."
    8. 2Thessalonians 1:11 (to the brothers of the Church): " ... we pray continually that our God will make you worthy of His Call ... in this way the name of our Lord Jesus Christ will be glorified in you and you in Him, by the Grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ."
    9. James 4:11: " Brothers, do not slander one another. Anyone who slanders a brother, or condemns him, is speaking against the Law and condemning the Law ... Who are you to give a verdict on your neighbour?"
    10. Matthew 6:9-13: "So you should pray like this: Our Father in Heaven, may Your Name be held holy Your Kingdom come, Your Will be done, on earth as in Heaven. Give us today our daily bread and forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven those who are in debt to us. And do not put us to the test, but save us from the evil one."

Jesus acts in accordance with the Word in His treatment of Judas. In God's Name, there was order; there was trust; no broadcast, no shout. He prayed and was merciful, loving, and meek. As Christians we should do the same.

Trinbagonian, I agree with your caution on "Priest Bashing". I have posted many times about the lack of leadership in our Western Catholic Church. I also point out that there are heroic Bishops like Chaput, priests like Fr. Frank Pavone, and nuns like Mother Angelica the founder of EWTN. Our Church history is filled with anti-church, anti-Pope Bishops, priests, and nuns going back to Judas. Many of these people are well known for spreading heresy like Arias and Martin Luther and his followers. Today, we have so many 'Bad Apples' that have infested the ranks of the Bishops and clergy. We don't do ourselves any favors if we the faithful don't hold their feet to the fire.

We all have a common understanding of what a poor school teacher is. He is a person who fails to teach his students what they should be learning to be successful adults in today's field of employment. To allow this individual to continue in a teaching capacity is to allow more harm to present and future students. Bishops and priests are teachers in their own right and they are 'Spiritual Leaders'. This means we look to them for spiritual guidance and truth on morality and social behavior. They, after all, are suppose to be the 'Moral Experts' to instruct and nurture us to grow as human beings into the Saints God wants us to be. Poor Bishops and priests, like the poor teacher, can do harm that contradicts the Church teachings and rebels against the Holy Father the Pope. We saw this in the 1960's when the majority of the Bishops cunningly rebelled against Pope Paul VI when he issued 'Humane Vitae'. Pope Paul VI described them as his "Crown of Thorns".

We must speak out against these "Crowns of Thorns". They are very easy to spot. They are just like your Deacon. At the same time, we must stand up and Defend the good and Holy Bishops, priests, and nuns who will be attacked by evil people. We can not hire and fire Bishops, priests, and nuns, but we have voices to challenge evil and Rosaries to pray and ask God to do the 'Hiring' of good and holy men for the priesthood and good and holy women for the convents. Ask God to 'Fire' the Bad and Ugly men who occupy the holy office of the priesthood.

Fellow Catholics, be careful please that we don't sink to priest bashing for we sink to something sinister. All bashing is wrong. Be especially careful about priests too.
We must do as we would want have done to us. I bet you, we wouldn't like if priests let out some of our faults (and they know some) in public. Priests are like all of us ... we can all do better.
Yes, it is important that priests uphold the highest ideals, however:
the highest ideals are extremely high,
the priestly office must be respected in every way even when priests may seem to be failing the Church at times (after all they - not we or angels - can produce Jesus' body and blood thru transubstantiation),
there is a relatively high proportion of good priests,
there are other avenues that we can use to address a situation we find problematic regarding a priest,
we add to the pain of the priesthood,
we trust in God and in His prophecy about incorruptibility of our Church, and
we should avoid as much as possible sinful words and a haughty tone for we can be merciful even to the worst of sinners.

Yes, it is difficult when we witness in Church what seems to us to be atrocities, but let us keep our hearts focused on God and He WILL show us what to do. Let's also focus on our Temple self. Who is the perfect priest? not you, nor I, saint or angel. It is The High Priest, Jesus. Be protective of the ones selected to mind His sheep.

"Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the Kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." After he placed his hands on them, he went away. (Mt. 19:13-15) Excerpt from Deacon Keith Fournier's article; Let the Children Come to Me. The Way of Spiritual Childhood is the Way of Freedom.

Early this morning I woke up with this passage in mind. Simplistic perhaps, but this is the way that we, as our Almighty God's humankind creations will overcome what the twisted mindset of the Steinem's and et al of this world think is the best way to exist in our worldly environment. Woe to them that they think that can get away with their lies and acts of deception, which harbors fears and chaos in our minds; in-turn causes a disconnect with HIM who created us to start with. Children have been known to be heroes...have stood up against the wrong!

The skeptics who believe that there is no means that allows for God to know what you and I think and act, when we promote anything against His will are +100% wrong. Is there cypher link to God? I'm becoming to think so. We could call it a form of discernment or insight. Could it be when we are conceived we are assigned a DNA code that allows His tracking of our lives spanning from conception to our last days here in earth and beyond into eternity. Perhaps the cellular phone networking technology and this link to Him has a similar analogy; an issuance of a specific code to all of His creations just like the SIMM cards placed in our cell phones linking to our phone account(s). Yeah, I know it's a hard sell to the non-believers, but it brings warmth and comfort to me to know that He cares enough to want to keep in touch 24/7, through thick or thin with me and all of us. BTW, I just turned 78 and thinking about what I just wrote makes me to think thus, making me very thankful how generous God is when He ordained His Wonderful Life of Ours! :-)

Vace, thank you for your comments. I would not call these people evil but lukewarm, the ones the Lord will spit out.
When I questioned the deacon why the issue of abortion and contraception is not addressed from the pulpit more often and in the strongest possible terms, he replied that we need to approach people with love, compassion..etc. Also, he informed me with a grin on his face that well over 80% of couples of childbearing age practice contraception. Well, here is the beginning of all our moral troubles - disobedience!
I also questioned the wisdom of putting a screen next to the Cross or even in front of it so that the congregation can read their prayers and lyrics...and that people passing by the Tabernacle do not pay It the respect it deserves.- our Bishops and Priests are not doing their job!

The saddest thing is anyone who advocates for the rights of unborn children is at 'war with women'.

Gabriella, your deacon is a perfect example of what is wrong in our Catholic Church today. The fact is that the biggest majority of Bishops, priests, nuns, and deacons think like the deacon you just described. This is the real crisis that needs to be addressed. But we don't have a media that will call these guys out. These evil guys have had a large roll in the degeneration of our society. They're getting away with it because no one will stand up and call them out.

    Dear Trinbagonian,

my apologies, for not having read your comment more carefully. Yes, you are right, we need to speak the truth, naked truth.
Just this morning, listening to the homily given by our Deacon, I was strruck by the way he went about describing pro-choice people, etc. He talked about love, saying that they also love those they want to 'protect' by affording them a choice to kill their baby...etc.
After the Mass, I had a discussion with him pointing out to him that we cannot talk about love when we commit a murder and do it in the name of love. I asked him whether our famous abortionist, Morgentaler, had killed thousands of babies in the name of love, also? His answer, "Yes, he loved those women, those babies...", etc. Then he added that yes, it was out of love but a misguided love.
Then I asked him to explain to me where the source of Love is and whether we can truly call a murder an action of love. My point being, there must be other words we can use to describe people's inclination, likes and dislikes, tendencies, etc.
Any act done out of Love bears good fruit. I cannot say that I love bananas and in the same breath that I love God. The word Love has been abused, overused and misused and we need to stop it. I can love only that which has the ability to love me back.

GABRIELLA, I am not being cynical. I will explain, if allowed:
    1. MARIONL claimed that the Catholic author holds views from the 11th century and I agree. Authentic Catholic traditions, views, and beliefs aren't new.
2 . I add, however, that Catholicism predates the 11th century ... to Jesus' time and before that to the time of the old Jewish prophets. Yes the Catholic Church has been around long before the 11th century. We have a long history. We are the first Christian Church and our Church has authentic Judaeo connections. The Christ of the Old Text is revealed.
    3. Now, newly formed groups of ex-Catholics, like Catholics for Choice have broken with the Traditions of God's Church (they even have a new name). These groups attack the Church and God; and are therefore evil. They are trying to alter the authentic Church from the inside and out. They are no different from the other groups of ex-Catholics that broke away from the Church in the earlier past (e.g. Anglo Catholics) and are really not new to the Church. Moreover, their ideas aren't really new either. Abortion has been happening since Jesus' time too.
    4. Newly formed groups of ex-Catholics are destined to fail. They rely on false philosophies and ideologies proving their silliness, showing their proud hearts and desires of the flesh, and ultimately their surrender to self. They are not built on the fullness of God; they are not founded on Universal Love. They promote wickedness and hatred in some way(s) whilst seeming to be caring e.g. abortion ultimately is murder (of the most innocent) to benefit another. The Apostles warn us about following these false prophets.
    5. All Christians are called to surrender to the wisdom of old alive in God's Church for in doing so, we subdue our selfish ways and bow to God Almighty and escape the snares of Satan. If the Church gives in to newly-faced ideologies, She is destined to always do so and therefore, crumble. Jesus consoles Her though, assuring Her victory.
    6. Had MARIONL's foreparents supported abortion, she would not be around to even choose her religious and political suasions. Thus, abortionists are asking the Church to choose, essentially, their own deaths (to say that it's no big deal if they, the abortionists, or anyone else are killed).

There is ONE True Church (the Catholic Church) and we are challenged to reconcile ourselves to Her. She has a rich past founded on principles to which no man (or woman) can add. We, Catholics will defend Her principles. Those principles we do not fully understand, we will pray about for we are a humble people that believe in the real living Almighty God and our hearts are clean, our intentions ... pure. And He will show us the way whether by personal experience or persons sent our way to clarify, religious or prophets etc., Our Living God will show us. "As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD ... for He is our God" (Today's Reading in Joshua).
