Editorial: Will the Republican Party Compromise on the Moral Basis of a Free Society? Comments

As a Nation we have lost our moral compass. As a direct result, we are losing real, genuine freedom. The idea that we can separate moral issues from fiscal or international issues is wrong. There is a moral basis to every political and social concern - that includes economics and foreign policy. Making this claim is not reserved to the religious. It acknowledges a Natural Moral Law which can be known by all men and women ... Continue Reading

Please do ask the USCCB to follow the instructions of Pope Francis in carrying out St. Paul's recommendation to his community of the Thesolonians. By refusing Communion to those politicians who so outwardly profess their support of abortion as well as homosexual rights in violating the dignity of marriage, our current shepherds of the Church would acknowledge that they love the sinner, hate the sin, and will set an effective outward example to the community by doing so. Cardinal Dolan would have better served Joe Biden at his last visit to the Cathedral in late March by having met with him before Mass to so instruct him that his annnouncement before leaving for the Vatican that he, along with Nancy Pelosi join the Clintons in their support for homosexual marriage is blatantly anti Catholicism. Instead, Biden received Communion at Mass that day and then met with the good Cardinal to have coffee after Mass!!! We need strong pastoring by our Cardinals, bishops and priests!

Between Christians who refuse to honor the natural law themselves (all denominations) and politicians who only care about securing office and the perks that come with it, this issue is lost as a political issue. One by one we will witness more and more GOPers change their mind.

To me this is nothing but being called out for our miserable witness. We have failed for so long to put our money where our mouth is and we are now paying for it. So many years of no investment in marriage, the family, our consummerist attitude (which fuels so much of the use of contraception) and our basic lack of faith in God's providence has set the stage for the perfect storm.

This is not a liberal attack but merely the fruit of our failure to live our faith. We will know reap what we have sewn.

Excellent article, Deacon Keith, but you have to dig deeper. There is not only a problem with the Republican party compromising or even dismissing moral issues. The problem is found in the very foundation of this nation. A people...a country that does not embrace Christ the King and His Holy Gospel, is bound to go off course. In America, morality is put to a vote or handed over to a judge. Truth, therefore, becomes an opinion based upon the whim of the populace or the interpretation of a judge using documents like the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence written by two radically, Masonic men...Madison and Jefferson...who rejected the truth of Christ the King's Social Reign over men. And yes, the membership of the Catholic Church in this nation embraced Americanism more than Catholicism. But such "enlightened" thinking by American prelates has helped lead to this mess. All the prophecies of saints tell us that all liberal republics like ours will utterly fail, falling like that statue mentioned in Daniel. Convert this nation to Christ the King and His one and only Kingdom, the Catholic Church, and there is hope for real change.

Bringing the light of peace to those that war in darkness is accomplished in a different manner...than supporting anyone as a potential candidate to the united States government.
Wisdom of law has disappeared in the united States...and has been amiss many years consecutive.
There are children and domestic issues to consentrate on, all over the globe...but in a different manner...
The representatives of the uS government employ no-knock tactics, etc.
The Democrats with the Republicans will just light the torch of darkness once again, in a white-house cabal...
"Bringing the darkness of War to those that bring peace using enlightenment and gifts". Our perfect children.

A NATIONS THAT TEARS APART ALIVE IT'S UNBORN CAN NEVER HOPE TO BE GUIDED BY ANY COMPASS EXCEPT sATAN'S!

ABORTION HAS TO BE MADE ILLEGAL, AND CAN BE, IF ENOUGH CATHOLICS FIND IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR IT TO BE PART OF SOCIETY EVEN FOR ONE MORE DAY!

BUT SO LONG OUR CALLOUSNESS EXISTS IN THIS REGARD WE HAVE NO HOPE TO FIX ANY PROBLEM THAT CONFRONTS OUR NATION!

    CONSIDER YOURSELVES WARNED!!!

To the truth of the day, connect the second part of Zechariah Ch 5 with the statue of Liberty & together with the first part gives the state of the country today even unto its root, all to Biblical Prophecy, for falling away is falling away in full, off course led by Obama & the Democrats even come unto the Republican. Gay & its Agendas is the divider & the marker, come against the truth of God to the First Family.

Thank you for the article. Now can someone inform the USCCB about the Democratic Party and ask them to speak courageously as one voice prior to the next major election.

    Thank you.
