Neither Friend of Court or Culture: Obama Asks Supreme Court to Undermine Marriage Comments

On February 28, 2013, the Department of Justice of the Obama  Administration filed what is called a Friend of the Court or Amicus Brief in the case styled Hollingsworth v Perry. It should have come as no surprise to those who have been actually watching Barack Obama and his administration - and not simply buying into the sophistry which they offer with such regularity. I rarely post a comment after reading an article, but after reading this I couldn't rstay silent. This is one of the most absurd and ignorant perspectives I have ever come arcoss. Not only is it the author and his beliefs that are an attempt to control others, but he tries to blame an individual who is a true champion of human dignity. Shame on you. Jesus would never have supported this type of hypocrisy

While I understand that this website is devoted to Catholic views is it really fair to judge someone on views they simply don't share with you? Is it such a bad thing that other people don't see marriage the way you do? And what does Catholic theology have to do with the courts? What could it possibly have to do with the equal protection clause? There is actually established case law from the supreme court of Canada that has ruled on pretty much this exact issue and it found that there were no secular reasons whatsoever for the law to prefer heterosexual couples over homosexual ones (and therefore under the Canadian Constitution which has similar terms to the US Constitution in this respect there was no legal basis for having different rules). I understand that this site has a different point of view but is it necessary to assert falsehoods regarding the law and assert that a different viewpoint (which is shared by many protestant churches) is automatically anti-Catholic rather than just a disagreement? I've never heard of any government ever forcing a religious organization to acknowledge any marriage and no matter what happens with the laws of the secular government of the USA Catholics will be free to make whatever rules surround marriage they want and recognize whatever marriages they want. You have every right to disagree and every right to make broad false assertions but one of those two things is morally bankrupt. Kudos in advance if your site has the integrity to post this non-offensive opposing opinion and shame on you if you don't.

But, does not God allow them their free will? And, does not the bible say "Judge not". And, should we not also allow them, and thus allow them to be judged by God, lest we be judged?

Barack Obama is not the source of the law. The people are the source of the law. And the people reject government intrusion into our personal lives, even when it comes to gay marriage.

The Bible and Religion in general has no place in the US Constitution or the legislative process. The only thing that should be considered is careful reasoned thought, basic Civil Rights & equality for all and the pursuit of happiness. Religion denies many of these things. We as a country should not deny these basic rights and human decency to any portion of the population.

Same sex marriage is incapable of "undermining marriage". That premise is false. Any argument built upon this premise is also false.

You have to be the biggest f'ing idiot. Obama is evil because of drone attacks and the continuation of the wars and the bailing out of his wall street cronies. This is the one nice thing he has done to encourage equality. You moronic idiots that believe in magic really need to stop sticking your noses in other peoples business. Just because you are too stupid to understand the world around you in reality doesn't mean you need to try to spread your childish and invalid world view.

Get with the 21st century. Equality under the law for all is a human right.

It is time we divest the Catholic Church of its very lucrative non-tax status in the United States.
