CORRUPTION? Obama is buying your votes. Obama hands out 20 million free cell phones, free minutes to those on government assistance Comments

A program to provide low-income Americans with free cell phones - including the phone, free minutes and no contracts - has recently incurred the wrath of conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh. The irascible Rush was surprised to just recently learn of the program, which has been in effect for awhile and has been dubbed by the public as "Obama phones." Continue Reading

This progran was not started by Obama and has been around for a long time. In 1985 a program was started for regular phones and has evolved since then to cell phones. I think we also pay for some of it on our phone bill.

I am disappointed in judgement on this article. The headline for the article makes it sound like this was started by Obama and is to gain fans. I am not an Obama supporter but I do believe in truth! It is misleading and causes me to doubt whether I should be reading Catholic Online. I knew before I read the article that this program has been around for several years, so I was shocked at the way the story was presented. Someone who just reads the article title will then go on to reapeat it as fact, which I think was the whole point of the writer. Shame on you for propagating more untruths.

This is the link for the GOVERNMENT funded cell phone. FactCheck is suppose to be NonPartisan but it is not always! Please note at the bottom, Government Lifeline Support Program. The program was not started under the Obama Administration, but it has EXPLODED under the Obama administration.

    Dear True Witness:

You're right, thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
Here are the facts again from Bloomberg Business:

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors goods is another commandment, by the way.
And, as far as using Fact checker as a source of truth, try Obama and Ayers' relationship to the Annenberg Foundation which funds fact checker:

The Truth is out there. You have to take the issue they give you and pursue the truth by finding out who is behind everything. It's all our jobs now. we trusted government officials and now we know better. Our job is to wake-up before they take every penny we have, all our property rights, our parental rights and watch out for every treaty sent to the US by the UN--every approval means you just lost your Constitutional Rights and the UN is in charge.
Right now, they're trying to get us to approve a child disability act so they will dictate policy, not our lawmakers. Go look it up and dig. Then look up the Universal Principles of Human Sexuality from UNESCO--it was written by two people from Planned Parenthood (in the forward--go see who they are). It is now the basis for Sex Ed in NYC public schools. The people who wrote it were not doctors. They were marketing. They are marketing to your kids and mine--a product line of birth control and abortion where parental consent is not necessary.
UNESCO, was formed by the Eugenics Society when eugenics fell out of favor after Hitler--go read. Don't take my word or anyone's word for anything ever again until you check it six ways.

Thou shalt not bear false witness....

The longer that you leave this lie up on your site without correcting it, the more you shame the church.

There is no "Obama phone" or other newly created federal program to provide free cell phones. As you may know, this is a myth that is now circulating on the Web via email and blog sites. It has been thoroughly debunked by independent groups. (See for example: at, which notes: "Low-income households have been eligible for discounted telephone service for more than a decade. But the program is funded by telecom companies, not by taxes, and the president has nothing to do with it."
The federal "Lifeline" program was created during the Reagan Administration. Lifeline is a federal program created by the Reagan era Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in 1984. The program was enhanced under Telecommunications Act of 1996, which was supported on a broadly bipartisan basis in Congress. The FCC’s Low Income Program of the Universal Service Fund, which is administered by the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC), is designed to ensure that quality telecommunications services are available to low-income customers at just, reasonable, and affordable rates. Lifeline support reduces eligible low-income consumers' monthly charges for basic telephone service.

Why do you need to lie? This is a program started under Ronald Reagan and expanded under Bush that is entirely paid for by the cell companies. Not 1 dollar of tax funds are used.

Thou shall not bear false witness. I think needs to go to confess its sins.

These free phones have been around long before Obama. Before that, one could obtain a discount on land lines based on being on Food Stamps. On top of that, do you not think it important for someone who is seeking employment to have a phone? Is it not necessary to be able to contact the doctor on behalf of a sick individual? From what I am told, we are not talking state-of-the-art phones, for crying out loud!

This article is shamefully deceitful-- not to mention a slam on the poor you purport to serve. I expected better of the Church. I am sorely disappointed in the perpetuation of such a blatant LIE!

What was it that Gandhi said? I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ. This article and most these comments only sum it up.
