Man in the Arena: Stand With, Pray For and Learn From, Bishop Salvatore Cordileone Comments
He showed genuine remorse for his actions and asked forgiveness of those whom he disappointed. In an age which is truly shame-less, he admitted that he felt shame! Finally, as a man of real "nitty-gritty" faith, the kind forged in fire, he asked the Lord to pull good - even out of our mistakes. Now that's the kind of real, human, and sincere response which should come from from a mature Christian. Continue Reading

Bishop Cordileone
I forgive you. My father drank and drank heavily and was probably considered an alcholic so I can speak here. You of course are not an alcholic but I just want to express as a Christian I accept your humble apology. Thank you for your witness and I do hope something very interesting and good comes of this. God Bless and keep up the good fight all. Momma Cordileone next time have someone drive both of you home I recommend always a designated driver.
@Benjamin H, I'm sorry to hear about your lose but I think resigning is a bit harsh. He should learn from his mistake and remember to never repeat it again. He is human and human's make mistakes, we can't all be perfect all the time, no matter what religion we are or what position we old.
*As a side note I would like to invite any interested Catholics to this site: https://www.awestruckglobal.com/ this is a Catholic networking website which allows Catholics to connect all over the world. I would also like to call attention to a woman in desperate need of our prayers so I will post this message below:
I don't know how many of the people in this group receive a newsletter from The Voice of the Martyrs but I do. This is a depressing short magazine that comes maybe once a month with stories of Christians being persecuted throughout the world, usually Africa and Asia. This month they were running a story on a Pakistani woman named Asia Bibi. She has two daughters and a husband and is being held in prison for blaspheme against the prophet Muhammad. She has been sentenced to death and has been locked up since June 2009. Please pray for this woman and you can sign a petition for her release at www.callformercy.com and encourage others to sign and pray. The VOM website is http://www.persecution.com/
Shows that Bishops are human. Forget it.
I lost a cousin due to a drunk driver 10 years ago this year. I will pray for the restoration of this new archbishop's soul and dignity, but he must step down. He has already lost the confidence of countless faithful in his spiritual territory.
IMHO.......we need to lighten up!! Let's not forget that our Lord changed water into wine at the wedding festival, at the request of his Mother. He performed that miracle only after the first batch had been consumed AND he saved the best for last!! Of course, back then, there were no Christians, "only" Jesus!!!! Word has it that in the streets of San Francisco this weekend those who are speaking out the loudest against Bishop Cordileone will be whipping each other naked in the streets. Anyone want to wager how many of them will be under the influence of something???? We're Catholic, not Mormon (not that the Mormons are the ones who will be taking to the streets in the City by the Bay). I think the elections have some of us confused. Our clergy are human, just like us! Imperfect. "Forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive............" Brightest Blessings All!!!
In my personal opinion this is not a big deal but when looking at things from a wider scope this is not good. Anyone in the Christian religious world needs to think carefully about their actions and words. This is not just in reference to Catholics but any Christian that is ordained/consecrated. Even though nothing came about from his DUI, other than being caught, it is still a shameful mark on the Catholic Church. I've heard this quote before, as recently as today in a homily but I'm not sure who it is from: "Much is expected from someone who has been given much but little is expected from someone who has been given little". I would consider this more as a paraphrase of the quote as I'm pretty sure everyone has heard this but I'm certain I didn't quote it exactly, however everyone should get the message. Plus a priest should be more 'modest' and not have more than a glass or two of wine, especially in this day and age when everyone is always watching and news travels far and wide.
He made a mistake that countless people make every day. The only difference is that most people don't get caught. It was a mistake and he's repented.
Who could not love a bishop with conviction and passion like his--and that boyish grin to boot? I still love him and rejoice that he's the new Archbishop of San Fran.
"...By knowing how to acknowledge their own failings to their children, parents will be better able to guide and correct them..." From the CCC, paragraph 2223
I think Bishop Cordileone will be a good father for the archdiocese.
I know bishop Cordolione, he is champion of Truth. He admitted that he made a misjudgement which not too many humans will admitt. I stil am waiting to hear the word forgiveness from Snap. They have an agenda. Snap hardly mentions the abuses of children
done by others unless catholisim is involved.. To th News Media, I quote Ps.112..."He has no fear of evil news, with a firm heart he trusts in the Lord, With a steadfast heart he will not fear, he will see the downfall of his foes.: I am sure, that bishop Cordolione
who's not guilty of sin throw the first stone
Prior to impaired driving skills, impaired judgement. Anyone, anyone who has had too much of the fruit of the vine, thinks that they're ok to drive. That said, impaired judgement is shown by the circumstances. We all know that opening weekends on college campuses are synonymous with DUI checkpoints. That said, perhaps the hand of God was at work. We/he can't ever know what might have happenned a mile down the road had he not come upon the checkpoint...........................as for me, I'd rather follow a fellow sinner than attempt to emulate the saints. No hope for me there!!!
