Cardinal Dolan's Response to the Al Smith Dinner Reaction Calls for Change Comments

The approach in the words and tenor of some of the articles, blog posts and commentaries on the Al Smith Dinner reflected a phenomenon I have referred to in the past as the "Catholic circular firing squad". It is too often present in this age of blogs, apps, social media and instant access to media. Some Catholics seem intent on figuratively shooting at other Catholics with hurtful words while the new Rome of a decaying Western culture burns ... Continue Reading

vance, you crack me up. I'm stopped playing parties long ago when I realized that no matter what each party says they are against, they still play a role in doing that very thing. Maybe you prefer to live in some dream land where you think your beloved party is producing results, but so long as that planned parenthood clinic I drive by daily is still open, they have failed. Maybe the trial ballons you call bills are enough to keep you on the ticket, but not me. Until I see the same do or die energy with this issue as I've seen them with war or tax cuts, I'm sorry, there is nothing to buy.

I've been saying in other posts that there is no secret in the dems platform. You'll get no arguements from me on that. There platform is appalling in so many ways, but at least you know where they stand. GOP??? Well they say all the right things, but then come election time all these issues go to the back burner. You cannot honestly tell me given Bohner's blink with planned parenthood funding that you believe they are willing to go the distance (lose their jobs) for the life issue? When the Akin issue came up they were in full retreat mode not wanting to talk about abortion but instead refocus on the economy.

vance, I have a complete and utter disgust for both parties right now. They are the leaders of our country and they have led us into a ditch. It's not an either or but a both/and. Personally, it's fun to comment on these boards, but I stopped putting faith in any politician, you know Caesar, to do anything to restore the moral order. They just don't care and the fact that Roe v Wade has been the law of the land for 40 years is all the proof I need. Failure is failure no matter how you want to dress it up.

JoAnn: I will read up on those institutions. Thanks for suggesting them. On the UN: it is far from perfect. In fact, it sometimes outright fails, for example, during the Bosnian War. A three-sided war with genocide being committed by two of the sides, and still, the UN did very little. Nevertheless, it has been a helpful force in many conflicts. And the humanitarian work it does - somehow UNICEF doesn't strike me as being part of the end of the world predicted in Revelations.

Judy: I am having one of those restless nights again so I thought I would catch up on what's happening here. Did you see the DNC tonight? I think the best part of the whole thing is when Gabby Giffords said the "Pledge of Allegience." God bless her. I had tears in my eyes. Good tears. I also had tears in my eyes (not good) listening to some other speakers. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore and I turned it off. Boy, Clinton's speech Wednesday night sounded like he was campaigning for a 3rd term. It was a good speech but I wonder how many caught all the socialists phrases he was using. The Clinton's are "Globalists" you know, just like Obama and his "friends." He is so hungry for Hillary to run for president, it isn't funny. He wanted her to challenge Obama this year but she declined. She told Bill to wait until 2016. He said "I'll be too old then.". I see where you quoted some readings from Mass. Do you go everyday too? There is a wonderful book, the Magnificat. I'd be lost without it. It has the Mass readings for each day. If I'm not able to get to Mass, at least I have my Magnificat. If you don't have it, get it. It's wonderful. Did you finish your book on St. Malachy yet? You know he has been 100% right so far. Pope Benedict XVI is the 111th pope. According to St. Malachy, we have one more pope to go. God bless.

Some will consider Obama the sinner. Some will consider Romney the sinner. But all should remember that Jesus was concerned about the souls of sinners -- not of the righteous.

So, it is fitting that these men come together in this venue, for inspiration from the Holy Spirit.

Rob: Just about the entire 7th chapter in the book of Daniel is about the end times. Also, Chapter 13 in Revelation. But, there are many verses throughout the Bible that reveal the end times. Matthew chapter 24 comes to mind. It's just a matter of interpreting the messages. Prophecies by St. Malachy and Venerable Bartholomew Holzhauser and past popes and other saints also. All you have to do is have a newspaper in one hand and the Bible in the other. If there's one thing I have learned is that history repeats itself and what I'm seeing right now is pretty much what has been happening since and before Woodrow Wilson was president. When you get to be my age, you've pretty much lived through a lot. Plus I have many Catholic books written by Catholic theologians on the end times. I have always been interested in mystery so I have done a lot of reading and studying in my day. I have a spiritual mentor from whom I solicit answers about verses I have questions about. We are in communication by e-mail all the time and I always go to his Masses because he is so traditional. What makes him so special is that he is a Jew that converted to Catholicism and then became a priest. Sooo, he brings a lot of Jewish history to the table, which makes studying the Bible even more meaningful. Especially, when reading the Old Testament. If you think of any verses that you have any questions about, I'd be happy to help you with them. If I don't know, I will consult Father. God bless.

Karl: Yes, it freaked me out plenty. I knew about the notion but when Bush, Sr. said that while he was addressing the US, I thought "Did he just say what I thought he said." I'm a very avid Bible reader and I have held many Bible studies. Not self -interpreting studies, with actual priests. That's when I started studying history more closely. You might already know this but New World Order is in latin on the back of the one dollar bill. It was FDR that added it to the dollar. It was FDR, Stalin and Winston Churchill that were very instrumental in the birth of the United Nations. God bless.

Good Bishops continue to send confusing signals to the faithful. No matter what explenations Cardinal Dolan can come up with, the invitation to the event will help President Obama with his re-election efforts. Nothing will change in regard to reversing Roe vs Wade until we stop being "useful idiots".....

Rob, of course you don't 'Buy It' because because you are invested mind and soul in the Party of Death and Deceit. I'm sorry for you and more so for our country. I watched your Party's convention when LA City Mayor Villareggosa tried 3 times to get a "Yes" voice vote for God. After the second time, he said without saying it, "Come on you idiots, give me a yes vote for publicity sakes". BUT their hatred toward God runs as deep as their stupidity. Villareggosa still didn't get a yes vote, so he had to force a 'Yes' vote down their fanatic throats. Sorry Rob, but the truth and voting records are what they are. The GOP's actions are their on record.

Karl - Bulbajer: Oh my gosh. I am REALLY having a "senior moment." I think I'll sign off for a little while and give my brain a rest. Talk to you all later God bless.
