Should A Christian Support Obama? Comments

Dear Friend, I know we disagree on politics. We don't have to agree on political issues, but since you chose to reprimand me by stating that as a Christian I should not say the things I say about Obama, I must firmly disagree. Respectfully, I must prove that you are wrong in your assertion that being a Christian means you must like everyone. Continue Reading

Since I have been out..., others have responded to Rob and Wes Lisitza's questions/observations. I agree with Vance's (and other's) conclusions that Obama should not be re-elected. Definitely not! He is turning us into a Socialist State--at best! He has no respect for our Founding Principles--the first one being LIFE. No one who: 1) promotes (funds--with taxpayer $$) everything from contraception to embryonic stem cell research and killing unwanted newborns--in the USA and around the world, and 2) bypasses Congress and issues edicts to Christians (specifically, these days, the Catholic Church) and others who value human life, decreeing that we can only exercise our religion according to his "HHS" conditions, and 3) "ditto" Vance, should be elected, or re-elected President of the USA. One has to wonder: "What next?" from this dictator. (Well within the past day or two, he asked the enticing question: "How many of you would like $1500?" Sounds good, hey?--and the crowd cheered...!) As for the very real, near 16 Trillion Dollar Debt that must be addressed, and for which Obama IS "responsible" for the last 3 year's addition, there is so much waste in State and, most especially, Federal bureaucracy/spending that 4 more years of just "more of the same" will cause us to topple over Greece's temporary reprieve! (How much of the weak "job growth" these days is in government positions/spending? I know someone who took a government job within the past 5, 6 years and has now retired with a pension for life....) May God have mercy on us!

JoAnn, I think we'll have to agree to disagree on what the government's role is today in healthcare. I think to be guarnateed life, you must have healthcare and these days it's become harder and harder to get it. There is nothing that causes more personal bankruptcies in the US than healthcare costs. To me that is shameful. I agree with your sentiments about what is happening to current beneficiaries. If I were currently receiving Medicare, you are darn right I would not want anything to change. But I ask you what about those under 55 who under the Ryan plan will be forced to continue to pay for the benefits of current recepients but will only have a subsidy to receive and then be forced to shop for their own care. Those who think that is a good plan have never actually looked at the healthcare spend of an elderly person, let alone try to purchase single coverage insurance. I guess we think that magically under this plan doctors and hospitals are going to start offering the value plans. Nope. All it does it get it off the income statement of the government and basically leaves you hanging. You don't have to worry about death panels under this plan because you won't be able to afford care anyway. So as a person under 55, with these brilliant proposals being passed around, I get to pay for current beneficiaries, and now somehow I'm supposed to figure out how to make up for the medicare and social security benefit I would receive. I would feel empowered if they stopped taking the money from me as I could direct those dollars. But we all know that deduction isn't changing, I just get to look forward to almost no benefit for the money. Totally different perspective. Honestly, I believe healthcare should be one of the top priorities of the country. We just need to figure out how to pay for it. We don't need to pit people against eachother as we look for what group to throw under the bus. As for what Romney will do, I get it, repeal and replace....replace with what? I'll tell you....NOTHING.

"Should a Christian support Obama?" Absolutely not! Why? HHS Mandate, Refusal to support the Defense of Marriage Act, Obama's fanatic position on funding Planned Parenthood with tax payer money, his support of Gay Marriage, Fast & Furious Scandal that resulted in hundreds of deaths including an American Border Agent, the average American Family lost 37% of its wealth over the past 3 years, Millions of people are out of the work force and the number is growing in leaps and bounds, Millions of people are suffering because of Obama, he is shutting down America's coal industry via EPA and causing poor people to endure High Utility Bills, Obama has more than doubled the price of gasoline that makes it more expensive for poor people to travel to and from work and the price increase inflated the costs of food and other consumer items for poor people and elderly. Is this enough reason why Obama should not be re-elected??

Rob: IF you want Truth, listen to JoAnn. Have you heard Romney speak about what he would do? The GOP is Not the problem. It is the American Julius Caesar who can not keep his hands out of the treasury; is full of rhetoric and flimflam; borrows from Peter to pay Paul; and when that doesn't work, prints non-existent money. And, according to my take on the news of the past few days, Ego has gone into making his own laws. I am not being disrespectful to our president. I am not saying anything untrue. In fact I am sad.
Rob, SS is Not, nor has it ever been a handout. People paid their hard earned money into it so that it would act as a little savings account for most Americans who had little or none. G.ma & G.pa did not have or need to pay for supplements. Jo Ann, and soon I, and 65er's + do. One is allotted of course, different amounts of SS checks, depending on how much they worked and made=monies taken out of their checks and paid into SS. So, the money received from SS, is Not a handout. I am sure you know all of that. I just put it in, for those who are under the misconception that SS is a handout. One has to have extra supplements, and that means extra money, because SS is not enough to take care of our needs as it did G.ma & G.pa..... In our age, time of living, medicine and ins. are so costly, that if one doesn't have ins. supplements, the consequences are not pretty. And this is where we meet the poorest of poor. Who must try to find other means...and sometimes that means being down to $2000.00 ownership of Anything before Medical steps in=the Government. It is a Sad Situation. Obama has spent over 500 BILLION Dollars out of SS! If the American Julius Caesar would have kept his hands out of the coffers, managed government the way he would have his own personal money (he can't print his own monopoly money for himself after all) he might have done better. For sure he would have done better with God on his side!
@Dear Father, we pray for our country. May our Lord who brought us True freedom, always be our guide; and give us the strength and courage and peace that was His. May His Blessed Mother Mary, Patroness of Our Country, forever watch over it and hear our just prayers, allowing us sanctuary under her mantle. And may the Holy Spirit continue to awaken with fervor, those willing to serve Christ Our King. Amen!

Wes Lisitza: Excommunication is in the Catechism #1463. It's just a small paragraph, maybe that's why you missed it. God bless.

IF YOU READ THE SCRIPTURES YOU'D ALSO KNOW THAT JESUS TOOK NO PART IN POLITICS...WE SHOULD BE NEUTRAL...HOWEVER WE NEED TO FOLLOW THE LAW, BUT DO NOT SUPPORT OR REJECT POLITICAL AGENDAS, "SINCE SATAN IS THE RULER OF THIS SYSTEM OF THINGS" (INCLUDING GOVERNMENTS)

Rob: Romney has already told us what he intends to do with healthcare. If the SC doesn't rule that it is unconstitutional, then if Romney is our next president, he intends to repeal it and replace it. Personally, I don't think the government HAS to supply anything for it's citizens except the protection of our rights to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of happiness. Oh, and by the way, seniors pay a HEFTY premium for Medicare. Since, 1/2 trillion dollars has been taken out of it to finance Obamacare, seniors are not getting the benefits that they had before Obamacare. Soooo, now seniors have less benefits and the premium has been increased. Nothing like paying more for less. Not to mention that seniors have to buy a supplements for coverage that Medicare doesn't provide. which is an added expense. What's fair about that? If I were you, I wouldn't worry about what the GOP will do with Medicare. Whatever it is, it will be a he-- of a lot better than what "The Dictator" will provide. If Obama gets back in, he is going to eliminate Medicare altogether and incorporate it into Obamacare because his goal is single pay healthcare. Where do you think that will leave the seniors when the "Death Panels" kick in? Don't forget, you'll be a senior some day and I'm sure you are concerned about your parents who will be at the mercy of bureaucrats deciding what healthcare they would be eligible for. Mom and Dad will be waiting by the wayside until younger folks are taken care of first. God bless.

Great article! Jesus said that He didn't come to bring peace, but the sword (Read all about in Matthew 10:16-36).

Likewise, I've wondered where exactly the whole "excommunicating" oneself comes from. I've tried looking this up in my Catechism, but couldn't find it. If anything, I think the Church hierarchy are too afraid or too weak to issue an excommunication of dissident Catholics. Yes, I'm criticizing, because I'm not getting the full understanding as to why, but mostly because I feel like not doing so is demoralizing the faithful and undermining the meaning of Christianity. I'll most likely be looking for answers on Catholic.com's forums, but I was curious if anyone else knew why. God bless.

I tend to agree that abortion is one of the things God hates the most thus supporting Obama means supporting all his views however that does not mean one should hate him being a christian means you should extend your love to all even unbelievers and pray for them

LT, as a person who is really interested in etymology I don't see how your mentioning the absence of the word 'fetus' contributes to your argument. None of the bible was written in Latin. Also, fetus doesn't mean 'offspring,' it means 'the young while in the womb.' 'Offspring' is a deviant definition. I don't see why you mention it at all.
