Catholics and the Duties of Religious Freedom Comments
The Health and Human Services mandate puts us in a fiendish dilemma: it tells us that for us to serve Our Lord in the sick, the poor, the orphan, the stranger, the disenfranchised and unvoiced, we must rebel against the same Lord in supporting acts that are intrinsically vicious. "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar and to God the things that are God." The HHS mandate is clearly and without question an unjust law. It ... Continue Reading

For the umpteenth time, will you please, please define this topic in a proper and Catholic way. Plain and simple...error has no rights....no one has a right to do that which is wrong...no one has a right to have an abortion or to have a sodomitical union...therefore no one has a right to worship a false god nor worship God in any other way than the way He has established it. Only Catholics have a divine and positive right to worship the true God and to publicly spread the Faith. Our Lord gave this right only to the first Catholics...the first bishops of the Church before He ascended into heaven. This Masonic and liberal view of religious liberty is a heresy condemned by nine...count them...nine popes. Wake up and actually embrace the orthodox truth. Why quote T. Jefferson when plenty of stuff has been written on this topic by Popes Gregory XVI, Pius IX, and Leo XIII? Despite what are bishops are saying, this issue is not a religious liberty issue, but rather a moral issue. Contraception and abortion is a part of the natural law that all men must follow without exception or else they go to hell. Give us shepherds who preach the Gospel not lawyers and constitutional experts.
gmazzarell...great point well stated
KarlVDH....absolute truth and one more amazing reality in today's perverted mentality
No Government has a right to make a law that is "intrinsically evil" = always and everywhere wrong; such is abortion and contraception. Consequently, we have an obligation to both protest and disobey such laws, no matter the personal consequences. More of us are impacted by this "intrinsically evil" situation than we may realize--e.g., job security.... In this regard: what about employers who include abortion and contraceptive coverage in their health-plans--to which we contribute via our premium?...."Trust in the Lord and do good." (Psalm 37:3) Then there are our state and federal taxes: some of it goes to Medicaid.... What a mess we are in! Our Bishops may get a reprieve for the Church..., but what about the laity? We must not cease to protest as well--for us, too! But, again, a law that allows abortion is "intrinsically evil" to begin with. This means Roe v. Wade must be overturned! It is no surprise that there are people who want "under God" to be removed from our Pledge....The Great Nation we once knew is disappearing before our very eyes! TRUST IN THE LORD AND DO GOOD....
I'm not certain that I understand why the Catholic Church is opposed to contraception. I do understand its position on abortion, of course, but why deny women healthcare coverage for birth control pills? The pills are often used as an efficient way to regulate periods and tone down painful cramps and other menstrual problems.
In a most timely way, this is elaborated on in THE CATECHISM AND THE CHURCH MILITANT article in Catholic Insight Magazine. The two articles combined are a most powerful perspective for American and Canadian Catholics!
Don't forget that in America, which is a rebublic, rule by law, the constitution defines what the government can and cannot do. It is this combination of constitution and government that is Caesar that we must obey, and not some illegal government mandate which violates the law which is the very source of it's authority and power. Therefore we are not disobeying Caesar, we are rendering to Caesar when we disobey the mandate.
I am against that portion of the HHS that mandates coverage of providing medical prescriptions for abortion coverage and prevention of pregnancy. I have read and do agree with the HHS portion regarding pre-existing condition coverage, continued coverage for those over 18, up to their 26th birthday, and complete coverage for the elderly. There are several other issues that are very worthwhile. So demand, demand, demand that that part of HHS be excluded that provides abortion coverage and pregnancy prevention coverage.
It amazes me... as a Veteran, when I went to fight for the freedom of the Iraqi people, I was called a hero, and a patriot.
If I stand up for religious freedom in my OWN country, fellow Americans will brand me intolerant, backwards and a bigot.
