Cardinal Timothy Dolan: President Obama's Remarks on Marriage 'Deeply Saddening' Comments

We cannot be silent in the face of words or actions that would undermine the institution of marriage, the very cornerstone of our society. The people of this country, especially our children, deserve better. Unfortunately, President Obama's words today are not surprising since they follow upon various actions already taken by his Administration that erode or ignore the unique meaning of marriage. (Cardinal Dolan) Continue Reading

I am a Catholic....I attend Mass regularly and I can not believe that this is what the leadership of my Church thinks is a issue.
Why is it that the Catholic Church can not accept the fact that people who are gay are gay because they are gay not because they have chosen a life of sin or perversion but they are following their natural urges to be attracted to the same sex and not the opposite. Why is it that they believe that God made man in his own image and that if a person is gay he/she are so because God made them that way.
When will the church start believing that marriage is a sacrament of love between two people who want to share a life together ...not pro create.
When the Leadership of the Catholic church decides to attone for the sins of abuse then they can start teaching again on moral issues.
    Its 2012 not 1012.

I pray for anyone who can not accept another human being for what they are....so Cardinal I pray for you .

How is it that Joe Biden is described as a devout" Catholic, when publicly announces that
same sex marriages are OK and should be made the law of the land. Does this mean the
Church will me forced to perform them. Why doesn't he just go up and tack his demands on
the Church door. Why is he not excommunicated immediately. I wonder how many Catholics will leave the church for not protecting our faith from people like Joe Biden. This isn't the first time he has shown his "cafeteria" approach to the faith.

I dont comment on Obama whose beliefs are non-Catholic, non-life and now, non marriage.

Sadly, I too think he's written off whatever remained of the "religious" vote. It's a political move to gain power....something they do every day. But this one comes at a great cost to our society. Because we all know that activists will not stop with this, they will insist that homosexuality be acknowledged as normal, mainstream etc and demand their "rights." This isn't about marriage only, but about a fundemental shift in our society. It's unfortunate that politics is being chosen over society. Mike, you are right, we are not a theocracy, we are free to embrace our undoing with open arms. Seems yesterday we took one more step in that direction.

President Obama should have been impeached for his failure to enforce and defend DOMA. His actions put the opinions of one man above the law and changed the rule of law in this country forever. Cardinal Dolan is right to challenge the President over his dereliction of duty on DOMA, but he chose a weak argument to do so. The Church does not have to defend its 2000 year old teaching against charges of prejudice, but our President does have to defend himself for actions that put him above a duly enacted law. The President may challenge the constitutionality of the law in court, but he may not ignore it, refuse to defend it, or undermine its enforcement. President Obama ignored our constitutional freedom of religion and was rightfully challenged by the Church on constitutional grounds. Now the President is ignoring a law of the United States, and he should be challenged for not doing his constitutional duty. By putting himself above the law, the President is threatening the rights and freedom of all Americans, and that is the issue that should be raised and addressed by the Church and by all Americans in this election year.

Obama's 2012 campaign collected an astonishing $1million within 90 minutes after the ABC News interview aired. Obama says issue should still be left up to the states. But not health care, not fracking, not oil drilling, not abortion, etc. I wonder how all the out-of-work coal miners feel about this latest development, or are they the folks who voted for the felon over Obama in West Virginia?

Obama works the damnation of his own soul for money and power, of which this is only the latest installment, and brings the wrath of God upon the nation.

"And he (Abraham) looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace." Gen. 19:28.

The reply to Archbishop Dolan's letter seems to have come from Obama through the ABC interview to a brick wall. That which the Church needs to understand is that the mind of Obama & his administration is caught up to a dark spirit, to a sorceress living in tombs & that which dwells in her is hatred, against which St Antony encountered & to this it is imperative that the Church start to look & work in this aspect & to which, the Church which is the body of Christ has the Spiritual mandate, for all power & authority has been delivered unto Him so let not Obama & his gang through the dark sentences dictate against the church, to the hatred of the devil against Jesus Christ in all the Sorcery & its servants reserved for Condemnation, to know that none dare to go against the Rock of GOD, to HIS Glory.

The USA is not a theocracy but is rather based on a secular constitution that provides for a plurality of private beliefs from the insane (Scientology) to the sublime (Naturalism). The Catholic belief system is one among many and no faith message deserves privilege from the State. Who disagrees with this? The Catholic Church knows this, that is why so-called Natural Law is constantly talked about (you can't very well say Yahweh commands it so!). Well, Natural Law is philosophy, not science. By all means, Catholics, stand in line with the rest of society and present your ideas, but just don't expect primacy of honor because you are a religion. -Cheers! ~Mike

As a Catholic, I am personally proud of the President for taking a stand. God created us from his image. I am pretty sure he knew what he was doing. Why shouldn't those that love each other be able to be married? There are thousands of man and woman marriages that end up in divorce, but where are the critics of those marriages? If people are committed and in love (same-sex or otherwise), why should they be denied of something that is our God- given right? People need to learn to accept and embrace just like we were taught when we were younger.

I pray for Cardinal Dolan and all bishops. We need to see the courage and strength of these individuals to defend not only our faith but truth and logic, the natural order. Anyone can manipulate words to his own purpose, but if everyone were to play the game of "word-use according to his personal thinking," the result is absolute chaos. He who yells the loudest, he with the most money, he with so-called charisma, who is the leader fit to govern a nation? The human mind is meant for reason, clear thinking, logic, truth. Anything less is pure aberration.
